| I went to a job interview yesterday and it went well. At the end the employer gives me a list of things I'll need for the job. It's a kind of telemarketing gig for a audi/visual firm. Anyway, the list is fairly simple, pens, pencils, papers, stapler, some clothes for the job such as slacks, white shirt, etc...then I get to the bottom and there's a total. $512. I'm like Did I miss something? and the guy goes " Well you have to pay for supplies somehow and the cost will come out of your paycheck". I'm like most of this I have, I mean come on who doesn't have pencils, pens or slacks, not to mentino the fact that I'm in college and need a bunch of these supplies. Then the dude is like ok what about slacks? I'm like "Have a few pairs actually" so he starts looking around for an excuse or something and says ok but there's still $300 :wtf: you gotta give us for your desk space or somethign retarded like that. Bottom line was I told him i'll call him on monday. One of my friends worked here and says they try to rip you off alot but the pay isn't too bad. for 300 bucks i'd rather build my own desk....ok :venting off: |

| I've never heard of an employer doing something like that. Sounds like a scam to me. But if the pay is good enough to cancel out the initial 300 withdrawl I could see at least giving it a shot. I'd just be wary of future withdrawls for bull reasons. |

I would have told that guy he's gonna have to deduct my foot from his ass with all that bull!
But seriously, most companies that hiring new employees will provide those types of materials or provide incentives or some form of payment to offset those specific costs. It's their initial investment in the employee and because they do that, they are expecting you to be around a while.
In this case, I'm going to guess that the company has a very high turnover rate and this is the way that they get around losing money hiring people all the time. It's also probably a way they get new hires to stick around for a while, if you discover it's a ty place to work your probably not going to quit until you feel like you've gotten your initial investment out of it.
But who knows, may be a great place to work. :conf: |
