Reason - How to Group Tracks?
View this Thread in Original format

Something I do all the time in Cubase, send drums, bass etc to a group channel and apply and automate a filter on the group. But how to do this in Reason 3?

Or am I missing something obvious?

You mean stick all of the devices that are already in combinators into another combinator?

When starting a project you should learn to group things effectively and it will make organising things later much easier.

In Reason you would do it something like this:

Master Mixer(recives every other mixer input)+ Filter
-Percs Mixer
-Kick + Bass Mixer
-Synts Mixer

Percs Mixer + Filter
-redrum
-redrum
-redrum

Kick + Bass Mixer + Filter
-redrum
-subtractor
-malstrom

Synths Mixer + Filter
-subtractor
-subtractor
-subtractor
-subtractor
-malstrom
-malstrom
-malstrom
-malstrom

The different mixers act as "groups" grouping together different channels. The filters on the mixer allow you to automate the filter for the "group", which is what I think you asked for.

Demo here:

bah, you send it's not working:whip:

I thought this for a long time, and just used it to export usable loops. But I've spent some time with it this weekend and given the effort I'm very happy with (within limits) what it can produce. I particularly like how when you're trying to create and mix sounds to come up with a theme, all of the controls are in one place in front of you - no multiple windows to deal. Only Logic comes close here - Cubase is very distracting in this sense. But that piano roll has gotta go!

Thanks mate, worked it out. The devices in the combinator go to a line-mixer, then the mixer goes to a filter. Easy really.
