ok here is a photo of Myra and I so you know who to look for...

and in case they're on the stage rather than the DJ booth, we usually chill on the 2nd floor balcony above the stage, on the right side if you're looking up from the dance floor

Rob, sounds good, man. I hope to see you and Myra tonight (as well as all the other TAs). I am listening to your "Clarity through the Fog" as I type, and soon to switch on A&B Anjuna Beat vol 3. Played two football games today, so gonna have to take a disco nap to get ready for tonight. Can't wait!

Ok, this is my last post about this show, but just listening to A&B Anjuna Beats vol 3, specifically, Smith & Pledger's "Northern Lights"...enough reason to get your ass to vision tonight:) Can't wait to write this review and see the TAs:toothless

Phew! My brain is still rattled from all that hard trance... :nervous:

The only way I can describe this show is unexpected, and that's not necessarily a bad thing at all... :D

First off, Erik K. He had a good night, and rather than focus on the minor fumbles he made, I'll just say this, he's come a long way in a couple short months. His mixing, for the most part, was solid, and there were absolutely no "You're listening to Erik K" promos. It makes me think he genuinely took to heart the criticisms from his night opening for Ferry. So Erik, if you're reading this, just like I told you at the show, you've made a lot of progress, keep up the good work.

Bet you guys didn't see that coming... ;)

Second Sun was impressive, if a bit hard for me. I always like to watch a live PA set, especially when the guys are as into it as the Second Sun guys obviously were, and the live vocals were just absolutely killer. There were a few melodic and chill tracks thrown into their set that I really enjoyed, but as a whole, the set was just a little too hard for my tastes, though I'm still very happy I got to see these guys perform.

And as far as Above and Beyond's set, I really liked the first hour and a half to 2 hours of it. They played a lot of tunes I really wanted to here out again or for the first time, and it was cool to be able to see those guys work. But towards the end of the night the theme of the evening seemed to turn to "How much hard trance can we bang out?" and I just wasn't feeling the super hard trance at 4 in the morning, so we bailed out a little early.

My favorite tracks from the evening:

Remy & Roland - Bad Deal
The new Roland Klinkenberg track
Petter v. Unkle - These Days/What you are to me (Unknown Remix)
Smith & Pledger - Northen Exposure

If ANYONE can ID the remix of the Petter/Unkle track I'd really appreciate it. It is NOT the Sasha mix, not even close, it's a pretty fast track, but I really liked it. Hearing it out live in a club was just soooooo sick.

Though, the best part of the night for me was getting to meet a bunch of new TA's I hadn't met before. It was real nice to finally be able to meet and talk with James & Seneca, and I really hope I get to see you two out again very soon. An especially big thank you to James for all the kind words re: "Clarity through the Fog," it definitely means a lot to me to know people are enjoying my music.

Chris, I hope you made it home OK bro, I know you had a long drive back, but damn man it was real good to see you again, we've got to get out and party again really damn soon, and you need to TRY and make it up to Point during your break, but if you don't, and even if you do, I better see you on eleven four oh five ;)

Yuris, it's always good to see you man, looked like you were having a great night out :p Thanks again to you for your help during the evening as well.

Well, that's about long enough for now. All in all a good night out, thoroughly enjoyed getting back to Chicago, and now I can't wait to get back down there for Dekay... October will be a fun month...

The drive back was interesting to say the least but I made it back alright. :D Point for October break! HELL YEAH!

As for the party Second Sun put on a hell of a show. Like Rob said they were on the hard side for most of their set but they were into it and so was the crowd. It was awesome finally being able to see A&B live.

awesome review :)

I heard from a friend of mine that A & B put on a mediocre show?? :-\ or at least a dissapointing one....

Under circumstances, I was going to go after my own gig..but..then.. I lost my cell phone! Something always seems to happen right before I want to go to Vision :-\ maybe it's a sign...

Well, cheers guys, I will see you there for Armin!

i had a great night, it was just more hard trance than i could handle. we ended up leaving around 4:15 because i felt like my brain was melting. i was expecting more melodic/epic/prog/"fluffy" trance. it wasn't a bad thing at all, i really enjoyed the show that Second Sun put on, especially the live vocals. Above & Beyond started out with a lot of trance and pitched-up prog, but then they just started banging out these harder tech-trance songs that i just couldn't handle at 4am. i can't really make an accurate review of them since i bailed out before their set ended.

Erik K was significantly better than he was the last time i saw him back in June. his mixing was much better and i actually enjoyed his track selection better than SS or A&B. i can't remember if it was him or A&B that dropped Arcadia, but i still loooove hearing that song out at a club.

and of course, it's always nice to see the TAs out in full force - Seneca, Chris, Yuris and especially the ones i haven't seen in what feels like forever - Rubin and Sumeet! and it was nice meeting you, James... looked like you were having a great time!

So yah, this night rocked:)

Erik K definitely put together a nice set, and yes, he did spin "Arcadia":)

First off, great to meet Myra and Rob and I am assuming their friend from West. Lafeyette (Phreek?). Was great chatting and definitely look forward to hanging with you guys more. Seneca, always a pleasure, bud--you must have left fairly early.

Ok, so I know there have been some complaints about the "hard" trance, as I think it was overall very melodic, but I think a big part of it was the sound sytem. The levels were wayyyyyy off on the floor. My ears are still ringing. Reminds me of how I felt when James Holden came to Vision a few visits ago. Needless to say, Second Sun's live stuff really got the crowd going (esp. when he sang out the words from "Crush"..."I know you want me!"), but the rest was pretty hard.

Above & Beyond (only Paavo--he may be 5 feet tall, maybe--and Jono came, Tony was absent), oh man, so good. They really didn't deviate from their recent stuff, like Anjuna Beats vol 3 or tracks from Trance Around the World. Larry Mountains 54, Northern Lights, Sirens of the Sea, Air for Life and What You are to Me were some of the highlights for sure! Then they ended with As the Rush Comes and No One on Earth and Alone Tonight, pretty damn amazing (I think you guys must have missed the end, Rob & Myra).

As an avid A&B fan, no disappointments at all. My only complaint was that damn tweaked sound system, and it sure would have been nice to hear Lucas & Beltram "Trust Me" but oh well:)

Til Matthew Dekay, woo hoo, cheers:)
