hola all !
i'd like to draw your attention to a few upcoming events happening right here in Toronto which i hope will provide a unique and insightful experience. Over the past few years I have had the opportunity to attend various art & multimedia exhibitions throughout the world and be enticed by the creative minds of individuals and independent artists who have found ways to express themselves in forms that not only entertain, but are delivered in a way that amaze and inspire the audience.
I am happy to see that Toronto will also be hosting 2 festivals of this sort this fall. One of which takes place next weekend (Sept. 16-18) in various venues throughout the city named "Ear to the Ground Festival" - www.eartothegroundfest.com

This will be the festival's innaugural event in hopes that it will continue as an annual gathering. Some of the artists include: Holy , Kid Koala with P-Love, Rjd2, LAL, K'Naan, Saul Williams, The Mark Inside, Tricky Woo, Death From Above 1979, The Most Serene Republic, Andrew Bird, Kobayashi, and more. The event also features experimental music, animation shorts, spoken word, and other digital art and multimedia exhibits.

Mandate
To promote interest in the works of independent and emerging artists, independently-run businesses and media, and innovative and non-commercial endeavours through the staging of an annual festival, along with other projects that will help further the organization’s aims, goals and values.
Organizational Goals
Ear To The Ground will exist to:
Promote the work of independent, innovative and emerging artists, and help expose them to new audiences through an annual festival and other projects
Showcase artists not only from Toronto, but from across Canada and beyond, from diverse
backgrounds and lifestyles, in a variety of disciplines and genres
Create affordable opportunities for the public to access the work of these artists
Present these works in a highly professional and well-organized manner
Work with businesses and organizations which fully support our mandate and goals

The second festival has been a long running event, however it is the first ever public "Festival of the Future" based upon the studies of visionary Marshall McLuhan. Like Ear to the Ground, the festival is to take place among various venues throughout the city between Sept. 23 - Oct. 3. For more information, visit: www.mcluhanfestival.com

Where Is It?
In more than twenty venues across Toronto, from the University of Toronto to the Drake Hotel, from the Design Exchange to the Gladstone Hotel, from the National Film Board to the West Queen West and Regent Park.

Both events I have mentioned are non-for-profit festivals that achieve to inspire as well as to entertain. It's a pity that I'm working this weekend as I had hoped to volunteer at Ear to the Ground, but I suppose that if all goes well I may have that opportunity next year.
Having recently returned to Toronto after attending Piknic Electronik - www.piknicelectronik.com - in Montreal this past weekend, I had hoped that perhaps the city of Toronto would be open minded enough to begin hosting public festivals again that provide us with the opportunity to share the many facets of electronic music. I hope that with these types of events we will.
Perhaps some of you might be interested in checking these events out as well as helping the development of art & culture in the city. It is only with your support that such events will continue to happen and grow in our city in what could be one of the only ways that electronic music will find an outlet to a wider audience.
