Border Crossing

So...I have an expired passport, my drivers license and yeah. That's it.

Because I wasn't born in Canada (Born in Lebanon), I don't have a Birth Certificate. I lost my citizenship card ages ago, and it takes 3 months for a replacement.

I wanna hit NYC this weekend for Ultra.

What are the odds that I'll make it over the border? Should I try the passport and hope they don't check expiry dates?

:(

you'll be fine
ive crossed lots of times with just a drivers licence
Moral Hazard
just use the DL. That will be fine (unless you get a real prick). The Passport will cause more of a problem because if they do check and it's expired you aren't getting in no matter what else you hand them as ID.

I'm half arabic though... :S

They've never really questioned me before cause I'm so caker. But you never know...

I thought that as of Sept. 1st you required a valid passport? Was that not pushed through?

Moral Hazard
^^^^^ they backed down on that.

Karim, you look like the product of a Nazi eugenics program. Show them your DL, answer their questions, call the agent sir and you won't have a problem.

Travelers to and from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Panama, Mexico and Canada will be required to have a passport or other secure, accepted document to enter or re-enter the United States._ This is a change from prior travel requirements and will affect all United States citizens entering the United States from countries within the Western Hemisphere who do not currently possess valid passports._ _This new requirement will also affect certain foreign nationals who currently are not required to present a passport to travel to the United States._ Most Canadian citizens, citizens of the British Overseas Territory of Bermuda, and to a lesser degree, Mexican citizens will be affected by the implementation of this requirement._ Some requirements have an effective date of as early as December 31, 2005. Please access the links below to get specific information to insure your travel plans are not disrupted.

I've had different luck at different places.
In detroit they are a little bit strict sometimes but we have always been able to get in with a DL even if they hastle us a little bit.
As long as you 've never been arrested or denied entry into the states before you should be ok.

As you may have heard, the US has decided to make passports mandatory for border crossings (for US and Canadian citizens). Please note that there are different dates of implementation, both well over a year away, as follows.
- Canadian and U.S. citizens entering the United States from Canada through airports and seaports must present a passport starting Dec. 31, 2006.

- Canadian and U.S. citizens entering the United States from Canada across land border crossings must present a passport starting Dec. 31, 2007.

There are no changes to the documentation requirements until these dates. For most of the traveller who call us (and are travelling by car), this will not impact them until (nearly) 2008 (which leaves plenty of time to obtain a passport).
