Might as well ask this here - I remember Mauro Picotto and Mario Pui had a song called 'Imperiale' and in the breakdown they had the Heart of Asia melody...so who did the melody first?

neither, the melody is from taken from Ryuichi Sakamoto's Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence

Hemstock & Jennings' 2003 remix and James Holden's & Astro's 2000 remixes are cool, as well as Rising Sun Mix is worth listening. Other mixes aren't that special IMO.

I first heard the melody back in '83 when i saw the movie 'Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence', to which Sakamoto originally wrote the track for and also starred the movie together with David Bowie. It featured also a vocal version of the track called Forbidden Colours. The melody still sounds wonderful.
