When I was in NYC 2 weeks ago, I coincidentally ended up in this cmoedy club called "comedy cellar" at East Village, Manhattan. We were walking by, looking for jazz clubs when we saw the comedy program for the night would start in 3 minutes.
I have to say I rarely laughed so hard in my life. That was non-stop entertainment, and I'm generally very picky with regards to comedy. However what I saw were high quality performances by every single act, which really changed my mind about America's standard of comedy. Much better than for example the German humor (as if that was any hard, though).

Larry Markus
Kurt Metzger
some black woman who's said to perform at Chappelle's form time to time (she was awesome)
some big nosed dude who's supposed to play in King of Queens sometimes |

Pablo Francisco was fun the first time. Then I realized he does the same thing every time.
Something most americans don't like apparently is Eddie Izzard, he's the most popular comedian in europe I would say atm. He's my favorite as well.
Another comedian is Russel Peters. Damn funny guy.
