Kate, if you only like techno, you should move because techno is almost dead in Montreal (sad but true). You can bring the biggest artists and there is not much people coming. Go to Europe because it's the only place where they play this sound. For sure Aria will book 5-6 techno artists a year but not more than that.
There is Carl Cox, Richie, Sven, Liebing, Glaude and Mauro that are worth it (business wise, with other dj's you loose money). |
At Swirl, I think the crowd LOVED Chris Liebing. Most DJ's that play in Montreal all say that the ppl here like really hard, underground music. We need MAURO, thats all i ask for! |

| I think if we can bring any techno dj in a 3ham club, thats can help, cuz a lots of people don't want to go anymore in parties or afterhours, because of pills,so they replace it by alcool. Like Carl cox or any djs who go to 1234 or space, its a good thing. With a lot of advertising(radio, newspapers, forum) it can be better. I tell you, there's a lot of people love listening techno music every day,but don't want to go into a after or party, when everybody are stone. |

I know a lot of people who love listening to techno but they just don't want to go to Aria. *meh*
Obviously Aria is a great club to see a techno headliner.. but a lot of people are just sick of it.
I agree, techno isn't dead in the city, I was at Swirl also and I saw the way the crowd reacted to Liebing's set. this is just an example obviously..
I am very curious though to understand whether the 'promoters' (bookers) these days in Montreal actually see themselves as 'promoters' of the djs and music in general, or merely facilitaters of a venue for them to play in. because personally I don't see all that much 'real' promoting going on.
In the many years since I have been going to afterhours in Montreal, I have never seen the interest level so low to actually 'showcase' artists or even educate the patrons about the djs and music overall.
I don't think that the state of the current scene has demised solely because of that, but it certainly didn't help.
as for the comment of me moving to europe.. in the works actually!
:toocool:
(not for techno headliners.. hehe.. i'm not that crazy, but it's a nice bonus)
anyway, this is off topic again...
The people that loved seeing Deep Dish & Danny the other few times this year I am sure will have a blast on NYE. ;) |

There was only 200 people for Mauro Picotto in a regular nightclub so trust me techno is dead here.
You are telling me about the reaction for Cris Liebing at Swirl.
When I said there is only 5-6 techno dj's that are worth it, Chris Liebing was in the list. |

Im guessing you're talking about Space 32? Mauro is my fav. DJ and i always check up to see if he's coming to MTL. I read on Mauro's site that he was playing in Montreal but it didnt say where. I only found out he was playing at Space 32 a couple of days before the party, i had never before heard of this club, there was barely any promotion for the party. In fact i got all my answers on TA. Bad promoting. The last time Mauro was at ARIA, if i remember clearly, it was jam packed. |

| either way, good job for the bookings. Sharam and Howells will destroy the floor. We're spoiled here in montreal! A lot of cities could never book Deep Dish and Howells on the same night for NYE. |
