cds are taking over. i realy didnt like saying that. cd technology is getting beter and most importantly cheaper. everyone just has to get one becaue you dont have to buy music anymore. you can steal all the music you want and no one can do a thing about it. cds last longer, you can play it every day and not have to clean it (seriously, try it if you dont believe me) lasts a load longer, costs a load less. Oh yeah its so easy to bring around. what you rather bring around 2 70 pound flightcases or one mp3 cd? A lot of the big names are changing over last time i say johan he had like 5 cds and played for like 3 hours.
CDs are great and all but CDs suck unless you have a Pioneer 1000 MK2. |

Personally, I think you have to use CDs to keep up with newer tracks. I can't wait to get some CD decks next year. There're a lot of tracks that I simply can't get on vinyl. So places like beatport are very nice.
I'm sure someone's mentioned it before, but with the digital explosion of music, you've got good and bad. It's good because you can get tracks much earlier than their vinyl release. Also, there are killer tracks out there that don't make it to vinyl for one reason or another, so CDs give DJs the opportunity to still play these tracks. On the other hand, since it's become so much easier to get tracks out there, you also get a lot of crap. I'd still say it's worth it, though.
(Of course then there're tracks like Hiratzka & Kazell - Venice Dawn that are just simply hard to get. It's been around for about 18 months and it's only just now been released in any generally available form. And even then, it's only available at Juno right now, that I'm aware of.) |

I don't know if I agree with that at all. CD technology is awesome now but by no means is a DJ lost if he doesn't play cds. |

The only people who steal their tracks are 15yo bedroom DJ's. I pay for all my music on the various DJ download sites (to both support the artists, as well as obtain high quality digital files).
I spin both vinyl and CD's, and those who say that CD's are "cheating" or what not are simply clueless. There is little difference in mixing with CD's vs. Vinyl. The arguments are pointless and have been made a million times. For those who say "vinyl looks so much better", yes it does look cool, but so do the nice CDJ's, and in many venue's people can't see/don't care what the DJ is using anyway.
As for all CD players sucking besides the 1000MK2 (which I actually own), the CDJ-800 is also very good, as are the Denon tabletop players (the new DN-S3500 looks fantastic).
And if you actually had a Pioneer CDJ-1000 you would know that they don't play MP3 CD's :)
Any DJ who produces will play on CD's, since that's the only practical way to get your tune out there (unless you like lugging a laptop and Serato to a club).
I buy what I like on Vinyl, and what I like in digital, and the two co-exists beautifully.

id personally rather carry around 2 flight cases.... makes me feel like im actually a DJ because everyone has a CD wallet :haha: |

well its his opinion... though most of TA say that the 1000mk2 is one of the best, but i personally like the SL-DZ1200
and iv heard some people say its crap... but non the less i still want one...
i will still be a vinyl DJ untill they stop making vinyl... but i would like to keep up with some of these newer tunes that are MP3 release only like some of the stuff at Beatport...
but i hated CDJs for a while.. and now that im seeing sooner or later ill have to switch i suppose im just looking for the one that closest to spinning Vinyl... and nothing says vinyl like Technics :toothless |

first of all i was talking about cds in general and how many of them now plays mp3s (i wasnt refering to the 1000s specifically) and there are ones with dual reading chips that can cue 2 songs at once.
sorry i admit saying the only good one was teh 1000 mk2 was harsh go read some of my other posts. They make references to the Stantons Denon and in particular the CDJ 800 all being good decks. They are all good decks but what I should have been more clear the reason why the 1000 mk2 is better than the rest is becasue the effects on it are amazing! Other than that is just like all the other ones. Oh yeah any deck without vinyl mode is pretty much crap IMO. |

Dude, the CDJ-1000MK2 has NO effects. Not a one. Have you ever used one?
It's one of the most feature-free decks out there right now, but it works very well. It is highly accurate, very reliable, and has a simple layout that anyone can understand. The only "features" it has over vinyl are hot cues, a single loop, master tempo, cue memory, and well that's about it.
While I like my CDJ-1000's, they are clearly overpriced and Pioneer is simply riding out the fact that their deck was the first to market with a touch sensitive platter. It was adopted as the "standard" and they are therefore able to sell it at almost the same price as when it came out in 2001. Very similar to Technics, no?
The new Denon S-3500 has on-board effects and a direct drive spinning platter. Looks very nice to me, probably better than the CDJ-1000 and much cheaper, but there will likely still be posts on here that say "It sucks, you should get CDJ-1000MK2's".
