Temp: Who are HMV's major rivals?

Off the top of my head I can think of: Virgin, Woolworths and Music Zone

I'm really looking for the ones that sell a host of products from CD's to games to DVD's.

I'm not a regular in any of these shops, if anyone who reads this is, what are HMV's strengths/weaknesses against any of these rivals?

Thanks...

Good one.

Reason for thread, it is a question on an application form I have to fill out. I'm in need of a job and they are recruiting coming up to the busy christmas period.

So yea, Limewire, but how about 'real world' rivals that actively compete with HMV on the high streets.

True, what about rival shops simiar to HMV, just take Virgin as an example. Those are what I was originally looking for but I agree with the other suggestions too.

Maybe they're an unrivalled monopoly when it comes to Fisher-Price records, but lets stick to serious suggestions please.

Tower Records, Best Buy, Sam Goody?

well best buy also sells electronic appliances and prices are cheaper but the range of music they have is limited. and usually they dont have much import goods.
tower records... i guess they arent too different from HMV but like best buy, they dont hold as much import stuff. and the prices usually arent too different from hmv. both hmv and towers have tendencies to be more on the expensive side. but hmv does have impressively expansive selection of music. well at leas tmy local one does. :p
and as for sam goody.. havent been to one in the longest time so i dunno what its like now but it used to be . i wouldnt be surprised if its still the same.

Now, that my friends, was what you might call a "helpful" reply.

B+

I should really go out into town and go round all the places, taking notes. But it's really not THAT important. So enough of rivals, I just need a few more opinions on what HMV's weaknesses and strengths are against Virgin and MusicZone (leave it at those 2).
