Question on Demos

I am planning on sending some demo cd's to record companies soon and I am unsure of something. If I send music to them, should I not post it on the internet? Is it best to wait to see if they want to sign the track first? I have not yet posted my new tracks on the internet and I want to know. Thanks!

Hey,

you're always free to post up preview clips or lofi full tracks (keep it above 32kbps though hehe), regardless of label interest. Clips or lofi full tracks will not be very useable for p2p networks and sharing programs.

Keep in mind that label interests are often also just a "one-man's-opinion", it's always nice and adviseable to hear other people (if possible also 'trance-listeners' and not only critics) say something about your music :)

Then again, with full quality tracks you can never be sure it won't get signed anyhow. Often a label will still want you to do small edits or something like that, so the previously released free demo version will have no official value.

It would be selfish to think it absolutely shouldn't be shared before the release and you couldn't care when it's shared after the release. Record labels will stay have to pay for it even if it might not affect you.

Cheers,
Wim
