Where'd the DJ go?

So i was wondering if there was any specific moment in time, or if it was just a general movement when DJ Tiesto was just referred to as "Tiesto".

and if there was any specific reason for removing, "DJ" from the title.

I noticed Armin Van Buuren did that a long time ago - originally being called "DJ Armin Van Buuren" [i have some live sets where he was introduced as that as well], and now it's just Armin Van Buuren [no DJ]. again, any particular reason?

any other DJ's who eventually dropped the "DJ" and just became something else?

i think the DJ is kinda implied. "DJ Sasha!" "Oh, im here to see a dj? good to know." :wtf:

It might have been with Nyana, maybe a bit earlier. Dunno, it's been a couple years at least though.

*edit* yeah, I just checked out the album covers on amazon.com. ISOS3 is labeled "DJ Tiesto: ISOS3" and was released in '02. Nyana came out around spring of 2003 and the album cover is labeled "Tiesto: Nyana." So I guess sometime between '02 and '03 is when he dropped it.

Kind of like Seinfeld's Bozo sketch, are we going to get him confused with Tiesto the district attorney? Tiesto the pope?

Heh, I think it happens when you start gettin popular and your like the "DJ" in your name start sounding n00bish and stoopid. Besides that I think it has more to do with the fact that when Djs start producing.. they just take out the DJ out of their names because they are not a DJ anymore particularly.
sleepydragon
having dj infront of ur name sounds cheesy everyone knows ur a dj if ur playing in a club so why use it?

Tiësto has said that he uses "Tiësto" when he produces and "DJ Tiësto" when he spins, to show that they are different. I still think he is just eventually dropping the DJ from his name

I think, when popularity increase, the name description decrease...

In a few years, tiesto will change his name once more, to an unpronounceable symbol! :stongue:

washout
i dont care if its due to implied reasons, or popularity.
id rather there be no dj in the title.
its an old generalization that is gay.

That may be so, but Nyana is still titled: "Tiesto: Nyana" (note the absence of "DJ")
