Cd Decks or Vinyl?
View this Thread in Original format

Hello,
I am thinking about djing as a hobby, not a profession. Would you guys recommend that I get CD Decks or Vinyl Decks?
I am considering the cheapest way and vinyls are not cheap. Therefore, I am leaning more towards CD but I just wanted to hear your guys's opinions. Are there any drawbacks of CD Decks?

TIA

40 page thread on the whole debait, if u searched

if you can afford cdj800's or 1000's then buy cd's because its cheaper and more accesible to get hold of music. i need to get some because i never find any 'underground trance' on vinyl anymore cos the smaller labels are all going bust.

turntables are nice tho and im gonna miss them being my primary tool.

try both and buy what u like
its no good asking for our opinions everyones just gonna say something different.

Dude, weren't you the host of Double Dare?

:p

And my opinion: CD's just b/c of accessibility, but meh, as stated before, there's a whole 40 page thread on this subject, and as it is a very much subjective topic, it's something you're just going to have to look at the positives and negatives for, and decide for yourself...

+1 to the try it for yourself post. I currently only have vinyl but am leaning heavily towards adding CD's to my set-up. The sole reason for that is money. Bottom line is vinyl is fecking expensive when it comes down to it. $5-$10 per record versus $1.50-$3 per digital download...... that's a bit of a difference. Then add in to it the fact that most of the vinyl I order comes from England and the Netherlands where I get raped on the exchange rate and the shipping and you can see why I want to get some CD decks. Don't get me wrong though. I love my vinyl to death and if I had the funds to I'd keep on using it as my sole source of music, but funds are becoming harder and harder to round up to feed my craving for tunes.

cool, thanks for pointing me to that huge thread.
now, I think I have decided and I will go with CD Decks.

From looking at some products I really like the Dual setups. What do you guys recommend? Go with Dual setup or buy two individual decks.
And if so which ones.

Now, I cannot stress this more, I want the cheapest (reasonably good) product. I bet everyone wants that hehe.
But, this will be just for my bedroom djing. I don't need crazy bells and whistles.
What features should I be looking at? Beatmatching? Scratching?

TIA
