So ready to go skiing... ;)
The truth though is that skiing just blows anywhere within something like 4 hours of the city and it's only marginally better anywhere else on the east coast. There are just too many people in this area and not enough mountains - especially on the weekends... bah.. it's time to go to europe. |

yeah, but I wouldn't waste my money on Camelback - 20 minute lift lines, and it takes ~45 seconds to get from the "summit" to the base... I went there once. Never again. |
there ain't nothing else close enough for us to get to that is comparable. hunter closes at 4. thats the only reason why we go to camelback is that we can ride till 10, even though it gets slooshy ant icey at night, it's still kinda vast and the crowd disperses after 6. We'll be in the park at night or in the pipe! I'm heading out west in feb to salt lake city utah to get some park city riding. |

she says i have a fetish for snowboarding after a night of partying, am i the only one that finds snowboarding to be the best sport when you are "cracked out"? I mean you don't care that you've been up partying the night before because the adrenaline is pumping from riding. ok yea maybe your legs start to cramp after a few hours, but that can be stretched out. usually the ride home is the worst, but thats usually taken care of with the DD (yes a DD that doesn't party and only rides! the best DD ever!) so its like party till 7am, home shower pack up and gear up, get out there like 10ish, ride till 8pm then come home and sleep till monday. what a great weekend that would be. hahah |

^^^ Hells yeah - When I was 19 I spent a week at Trembant doing just that. It's all about passing out on a snowbank near the lift line only to wake up to some little tyke asking his dad if you're dead, and hearing the father respond, "nope, just a ski bum sleepin' it off"... dead on :)
As for mountains on the east coast, I've found that nothing compares to Sugarloaf, ME. Yeah, it's a hike from NY (prob 7+ hours). But, as far as terrain goes, it's the most challenging mountain on the East Coast (not counting backcountry i.e. Tuckerman's Ravine), it's superpipe and park are virtually unparalleled, and the lift lines are usually non-existant. It does, however, get gaddam friggin' cold up there, so pack accordingly - I've seen summit temps of -20 (not counting wind chill) with 60mph winds. But, if you hit it on a good day, it is comparable to skiing out west. |

why hike 7+ when i can do 5+ to killington? as for the -20 temps, yea i've seen it before! it hurts! i sat up on killington's summit at -45, and honest to god, you know how you can normally sit after you strap in and take a swig from the bottle before you ride down, not the case at killington, it doesn't even bite the skin, its like a knife to skin just peeling anything exposed. i had a spyder jacket on with 3 layers on - t-shirt, long sleeve t-shirt, fleece vest, followed by a neck gator, and a thin skully wrapped with a marine beanie and i was still cold. i had first layer pants with board shorts and then my pants over them and it still bit. it's so cold up there my board pants almost cracked not to mention the plastic on my cartel's and the cat strap toe cover was literally stiff!
i'm not a fan of the northeast corridor riding. its tooooo cold. i mean granted its great powder and not as crowded lift lines, but you need to fight that bitter cold inorder to ride. |

Don't underestimate Mountain Creek.. MC is one of the best local mountans (1 1/2- 2 hour drive) around for snowboarding if you're at a level to do tricks.. if you want to learn to ride head north. Mt Snow, Killington, Stowe, Stratton, Jay Peak, bunch of mountains in NH.
I'm dying to ride.. I lived in NH for all of last winter. Lived 30 minutes away from multiple mountains and I missed out the whole season. I didn't ride once. I was driving up and down to and from NYC every weekend. This year I'm back in NYC.. I'll be headed up multiple times. ALready trying to book a condo or a room near Stowe. |

| you want to talk about cold "kid", i grew up 20 min from lake placid "whiteface mountain" and on most days going up chair 6 to the summit it is always in the (-) and most times below -20........your bones hurt from the cold........but it is really fast and you only really have to deal with the locals.......most others don't want to go out in the extreme cold |

Coldest I've ever snowboarded in: -40 (w/o wind chill) @ Gunstock (NH) night skiing.
You took one run, then came inside for a half hour to warm up...
helluva time :tongue2 |
