Paul Van Dyk Announces Katrina Benefit Gig

Paul Van Dyk is to host a party in Houston, Texas next month, to raise funds to help victims of New Orlean’s hurricane disaster. The politically conscious superstar DJ already works closely with Germany’s Red Cross and said he’ll be teaming up with America’s Red Cross at all his upcoming US gigs.

“I’m going to be DJing in the States in three weeks time and of course the first thing I did when I saw the scale of the disaster was get in contact with my people in the States to hook up with the Red Cross,” said Paul.

“We’re going to be collecting money and I’ll be donating a large part of my fee and we’re also planning a special extra benefit show in Houston itself, where a lot of the people were transported to; we are trying to collect as much money as possible to help,” he explained. “There is still some bureaucracy to sort out, but they’re working on that right now.”

The usually outspoken German was unusually reticent about the disaster’s longer term ramifications, pointing out ‘very obviously there are some political issues involved but of course no-one really realized how big the actual disaster was, first of all. It was basically like two days after the hurricane passed that the water had risen up to the scale it was. The area is as big as your whole country, so just imagine if Great Britain would be flattened and underwater at the same time. It is very difficult obviously to deal with that,” he said.

What a swell guy...

and to think about everything he did to help us throughout our SARS outbreak... by cancelling his gigs and refusing to come into our country.

OK, that may be out of line considering hurricaines aren't contageous :tongue2

...it is nice to see superstars using their fame to help people... but it's nicer to see them doing it all the time and not just for the most mediated...
