"Yeah. Aaron?!"
"Uh, yeah. We knew each other back at SPSCC."
"Duh! What's up? I haven't heard from you in like two years!"
(She seems really excited to be talking to me. At this point, it dawns on me that we went out on a formal date once and went to a few parties together... but it wasn't anything exclusive. However, this was one of the few girls that I WASN'T a dick to... and she's always been this uber-nice girl, anyway. I should have expected this kind of response from her.)
"Yeah... Well, I went off to Bellingham, lost my cell phone in a park in the second week of school, and yeah... I was digging through some old stuff earlier and found your number in a notebook."
"Wow, I was wondering what happened to you. You sort of left me hanging... I thought I'd done something to piss you off."
"Oh, no, no. Not at all. Things just got a bit crazy after the last time we talked with me moving and everything. I just wanted to call and say hey and..."
"...Oh, that's fine. No worries. So, where are you, now? Still up there?"
"No, back down here for the time being."
"No way! We have to hang out!"
"Uhm, ok? I'm going up to Bellingham this weekend... but I'll be back on Sunday."
"Awesome! I have Sunday off... we should go out for a drink or something."
"Sure, sounds good. We'll definitely have a lot to talk about."
"Yeah, seriously. Wow. It's so weird that you called."
"Yeah, sorry about that."
"No, don't be! Weird in a good way!"
"Ah, uh... ok? Yeah, well, I guess I'll give you a call later this week so we can work out the details for Sunday."
"Yeah, just call whenever. I'll be around most nights after 6."
"K, sounds good. Talk to you, soon, then."
"Alright, cool. Later."
OMG THIS HAS POTENTIAL.

Coming off of that first call, I was like, "Hmm. This may have been a good idea, after all."
Dead ing wrong.
Next on the list... Lauren. I don't rightly remember all of the details surrounding the situation with Lauren. She's pretty ancient history and this call was mostly just out of curiosity.
It rings twice. Some guy picks up.
"Yeah?"
"Hi. Is Lauren around?"
"Yeah. She's here. Why?"
"Uh... Can she come to the phone?"
"Yeah. She can. Just a minute."
(Like two minutes pass and I'm thinking, "He's ing with me. I'm going to hang up." A few seconds before I actually did it, she picks up.)
"Hello?"
"Lauren?"
"Who is this?"
"Aaron... Uh, yeah, we knew each other back in community college... like four years ago."
"Oh, GOD. What the do you want?"
"Yeah... I figured you'd say that. Haven't forgotten about the movie incident, huh?"
"Seriously, why the would you even call me after that? It was like... three years ago."
"Yeah, I found your number in an old notebook while I was searching for something else and figured I'd call to see how you were doing."
"Well, I'm fine. Now off."
(Click.)
Yowza. Apparently, she's still sore about the fact that I made out with her at a drive-in theater and then pretended like we hadn't done anything the next day when one of our friends called us out on it. Bad idea.
Two more to go, including the callback. I'll save those for later tonight. |
