Hi Guys,

I have been quite intrigued lately by the yammaha msp range of monitors especially that of the MSP-3's they are a small monitor:

But I hear they are suprisingly accurate. I plan to buy a set to augment my larger set.
Does anybody have any experience with these or can recommend anything else?

Also what is it like mixing bass frequencies on speakers this small?

Cheers any advice much appreciated.

these prices are for single monitors right? you have to buy two?

Yeah I think its for a single monitor.... These two sets of monitors have had excellent reviews in the publications i read.. both being joint winners in different round ups

Just read the specs on these monitors , the frequency response on the MSP3 starts @65hz ... and the MSP5 @50hz ... i think this is a serious issue you should consider. I always find that the really low "room filling" bass lies around 40-50 Hz... so youre cutting it close.

This is of caused by the size of the speaker of course, small speaker , no accurate bass on the really low end.

But YAMAHA is real honest with their specs. Because some of the cheaper companies tend to give the 20-20khz Freq.Response , because that is what the speaker has to process, but it doesn't always come out correctly.

This is where they seperate the good speakers from the bad.

Thanks for the response mate. What about the Alesis M1-MK2

Do you know anything about these? I hear they are quite popular but not overly accurate.

I have a pair of Alesis M1 MK2s. They've got slightly enhanced highs and upper bass, but nothing as bummy or hissy like HiFi speakers. They sound much better and cause less fatigue than any Yamaha's I've seen, and they're very tight and precise on lower volumes. They do have one thing in common with yamaha's, if you can make something sound inteligible and balanced on them at larger volume, it will sound crisp and clean on most hifi or club systems. I was confident back then as I am now that they are the best budget monitors on the market-
