Portable digital recording devices?

I've been searching the interweb for details on the best (yet still affordable)portable recording tool.

I-pods have no line-input, so they are out.

I hear MiniDisk players are fairly unreliable?

So far, the Creative Labs MuVo has caught my attention, since it does have a line input.

Any experiences or advice? Any help would be greatly appreciated!:)

edit: I think it was Ampz that posted something like this a little while ago, but I dont remember many replies...

Don't write the Ipods off quite yet.

There is word going around that on the diagnostic screen of the new Nano, there is a test for a "line in". Presumably this would be an attachment that would be placed in the dock connector.

While the accessories don't exist today, the fact that this test exists suggests that the functionality may actually be inside the Ipod and just hasn't been activated yet.

i have that muvo player, and i'd recommend it. haven't really played with line in but from what i did notice the plug is a little thinner than your regular headphone jack. if that means anything...
other than that, very reliable, no screwups except the battery cover gets lost QUITE easily :o

I know jack about portable recording devices other than MiniDisc, which I have owned, and used quite reliably. Get a Sony, though.

haha ShadoWolf and his usual Archos plug!

Do you want to be able to record in mp3 or wav, or does it not make a difference to you? If you want to edit your recording afterwards, definitely look for something with WAV recording.

The Iriver poducts are good, almost all have line in, but they record in mp3. If you want to record in wav, definitely go with Creative. They also have the best sound quality.
