I have been reading alot of fun web pages featuring hardware that I never see anyone talk about using. Some of it seems like next generation type stuff. Do any of you guys also look at these pages? I would like to see links to other promising looking devices that aren't being used by everybody yet if you also know of some that I do not post here.
Lemur opensoundcontrol controller surface:

This thing is like a next generation midi controller, there is already some software that you can control with it, such as reaktor and supercolider. Things like this really get me excited because they have the possibility to make synths sound so much more expressive, to unleash so many new possibilities. I want this thing badly but it is way beyond my means right now. I think this osc stuff could possibly make midi obsolete if it catches on.
soundart chameleon:
Rack mounted DSP chips wheeeee. Haven't heard anybody use one of these yet but it sounds like buying one of these then downloading new programs for it would accomplish the same thing as buying a bunch of different virtual analog synths and fx. It could save quite a bit of CPU and probably sound better than softsynths on a general purpose computer
lionstrac mediastation:

Keyboard workstation thingy, linux powered, looks really impressive, another futuristic machine I can't afford
openlabs neko
another one of those computer embedded inside a keyboard equipments, very expensive and fun looking, not so sure about the small screen but it looks to have everything one could need to make some fun noises.
Haken Audio Continuum:

This thing is very pretty looking, another unvommon controller device. This one also seems to enable new kinds of expression for synth play. I am really curious about the the sound that somebody who is good at playing this could make, it seems like somebody who really knows what they are doing could really make some synths scream with that thing.
Anyway, I imagine some of you are gonna laugh at this post because the stuff I am looking at doesnt have alot of people using it but the devices really look interesting to me. I wish I had access to them to so I could play with one, has anybody actually seen one of these face to face before? |
