Looking for a Subtractive EQ Tutorial

Does anyone know of any websites that have a tutorial on subtractive equalization?
DigiNut
Are you referring to subtractive synthesis? Because as far as I know, there's no such thing as "subtractive" EQ... it's just EQ.
Phantax
Subtractive EQ Program EQ is used to compensate for non-linearities in the system's frequency response so that specific frequencies will be neither over- nor under-emphasized. The result is improved gain-before-feedback, higher intelligibility and reduced listener fatigue. The concept of subtractive EQ is simple: reduce the frequencies that are offending, rather than boost those that are lower in the mix. This is most often done with a graphic EQ, but sometimes a parametric EQ may be used to provide a more precise correction of response problems. Subtractive EQ generally results in lower noise and greater headroom than that obtained by boosting some frequencies while attenuating others.

in the digital domain this statement is retarted.. this difference (boost and cut) will only happen with analog equalizers. so it's not really important. but you should look more for linear equalizers as there could be pahse shifting..

so long

Phantax ... If you know this much ... then you don't need a tutorial ... Grab a Graphic EQ and a Parametric EQ and Get To work on Teaching yourself how to do this "Subtractive" EQ ... and I would'nt even say it's "subtractive" eq ... It's just Proper Equalization Skills ... To make everything sound like what you would want to hear a million times over ... Practice ...

Lemme ask you this ... WHat do you EQ With ?
Phantax
I copied that from another site to let diginut know what it is... I know what subtractive EQ is already. But I don't know how to do it.I use mostly hardware so I want to use this technique. Im looking for a tutorial that can teach me how to EQ this way. Can anyone please help? Thanks!!
GreenLight
you use hardware to mix down EQ's ? ... shame shame ... you need a digital EQ Software Program dood ... If you can, grab a copy of Adobe Audition or cool edit pro 2 ... It's Easy for Digital EQ Beginners ... Comes with a 30 band Parametric EQ and Graphic EQ with it ... along with a couple other EQ Bands ... Thats 60 Bands Total for both of the one's you'll need to do subtractive EQ'ing ...

After you load up the track, Highlight the track or the parts you feel need EQ'ing and Start the Graphical and Parametric EQ Board up ... choose between what size band board,10 bands(1 Octave),20(1/2 Octave) or 30 Bands(1/3 Octave) and boom ... all it is after that is ear tweaking ... The EQ Hz Range is From 31 Hz Down To 25Khz Up on these boards ...

I Promise you ... If you know what subtractive EQing is ... once you see the digital software boards on those easy programs, you'll know where to go from there ... If I steer you wrong and you don't find what you need here, then my last 6 years of Producing have been for nothing ...

The point of subtractive EQ is so that you don't boost unwanted noise that is sent using cables that hook up to your hardware synths. I also have hardware EQ options through my mixer but I was reffering mostly to my synths as the hardware I have. Because that is what is relevant here with subtractive EQ. In all liklihood I will be using VST Eq's through Logic.

You are steering me in the wrong direction but that doesn't have anything to do with your production credibility. It just isn't how I work. I can do everything I need to using Logic. But I can't do this because I don't know how. Hence why I'm asking for a tutorial on the subject.

... Then The best of luck to you on finding someone else who can get you a tutorial ... Your Taking A Long Hard Road Trying to learn something That EQing Knowledge Will Fix By Itself ... If somethings too damn loud, cut it down Throughout Its EQ range without ing With other EQ ranges, People Who Don't take the principle of EQ'ing delicate Lose sound that way ...

Good Luck Homeboy With Finding all this bull your talking about ... Out.
