| from what I gather, sp2 is only a pain if you're trying to install it on a pre-established system. On a clean install it's better. |

Dont be foolish. If you dont keep your windows updated with all the latest patches, with SP2 being a huge update, your windows will be open to so many security flaws theres too many to mention.
It may install some crappy red balloons and mess up all ur security settings, but all of those annoyances can be turned off with 2mins spent in the control panel.
The only problem to my knowledge is peoples "moaning" about the no-exe filter system. Basically instead of just letting any .exe be ran by anything like in Windows 95 upto 2000, microsoft have designed an .exe filter which filters exe's before them being able to execute. This is a barrier to stop virus's spreading like wildfire like they have done in the past, before there was nothing stopping the .exe being ran by anything that wanted to, thus activiting its payload all over the place. no-exe attempts to block any exe just doing what it wants until its established theres no problem with it.
Ive had SP2 on from day one and ive never had any problems with no exe, infact i forgot it was even part of SP2 until this thread. So unless uve had a personal problem with no-exe, or ur just moaning about the security settings when u first install it, i cant see why u should avoid it like the plague? |

| if u dont install sp2 + updates and a firewall, u will get some sort of plagues on your pc instead of avoiding it. |

Same here no problems what so ever. To be honest, my computer have never run this great. To me it seems like xp+sp2 is very stable overall.. barely ever goes down in any way. |
