| I would say 90% of the time, It's the PSU going bad, As for me, A few weeks ago, My old Geforce 4 Ti 4600 died, The computer wouldn't boot, It would turn on, But you would get no video and no bootup sequence. Therefore, It was the video card that went bad, So I bought a new one and everything worked fine. In your case, I would say the PSU maybe going bad, Maybe it's cause you added more hardware then your PSU can handle, I sugest getting one thats more then what you currently had, That will solve the power problems. |

The BIOS display doesn't come up. I can open the cd drives and all that. Just nothing boots up. I really hope its just the powersupply. Good thing is I have 2 seperate HDs, one with programs and the other has my mp3s and such so even if the main one is fried, I hope the data one is all good.
Thanks for everyone's help. Buying a new one today and will have it installed this weekend. |

Purhaps you changed something in the bios, In thee bios settings, Theres a feature you can turn on or off that handles the power on and off feature on the motherboard. |

Just press the power switch and hold it in until the computer turns off. Or turn off the switch on the power supply. Or unplug the power cord.;) |

I was holding the power switch. Did nothing.
Can't unplug the power source because it's a laptop.
I finally figured it out, though. I was kind of nervous for a few minutes :p |

Could be your video card. If the video card is bad, the BIOS may not show up and the boot-up basically stops there and hangs. The power is still on, so your CD/DVD trays should still open. Have the computer store check it out for you. |

| Well it's not the powersupply as I just changed it yesterday. I don't know what to do now. It could just be the videocard but I highly doubt it. I think it is the motherboard :( If it is, what does that consist of me having to replace in my computer? |

Probably a new psu, but they're a pain to install. If you don't know how to do it yourself and its an old pc, then you'd be better off getting a new barebones pc for around $300. Replacing components based on a guess is a hit or miss method that could be time consuming and expensive. |
A PSU is a pain to install? I've installed many and it's taken me like 2 minutes. Take the screws out, put them back in, reconnect all the power connectors. It's that simple.
No need for a $300 system, get a PSU or check the IDE cables and or HDD LED, Power LED or the Power Switch on the motherboard.
Also, it checks video first :). Make sure your card is seated properly. |
