I remember when DJs use to be members of the AV club in high school...what ever happened to those good old days

^^ maybe so, but you can't bring back old times so why not just make due with what we've got now!

I know I am certainly having a blast in the scene still :D

To each their own.. and trust me.. one day they will learn.. it is a matter of time.. :)

if you would have asked me 2 years ago who my favourite dj was.. I would have told you Tiesto.. as a matter of fact.. I would have told you Tiesto up until I would say June of this year.. my taste and styles have since changed.. I have jumped completely into Techno, Progressive, Electro and House.. is Tiesto #1 any more.. no.. is Preach and Sasha now. yes.. hahaha.. so everyone in time does learn that... but some just prefer to continue to listen to that.. that's all.. and nothing you can do to change it.. we just gotta keep going to the dj's we enjoy seeing and ignore the rest... as hard as that may be sometimes ;)

if people truly like tiesto's music then fine. But i suspect most go for the flash, the show, and the 40 songs that he plays that they have on their ipod at home.

That is not what djing and parties are supposed to be about.

Oakenfold was never nearly as bad as tiesto when it came to showboating. The reason he sucks now is only because he got lazy.

Hey Jay!

I think that if a DJ is good and innovative enough, seeing him/her is as important (if not more.... we've all been guilty of trainspotting) as hearing him/her.

Look at Turntablists and the occasional EDM DJ. You can get a lot of of just watching.

As for the pop image overtaking other aspects of DJing, well... hopefully people can see and hear well enough to tell the difference!

One of my all-time favourite EDM DJs to see is Adam Freeland, hands down.

until i came to tranceaddict, i had never heard anyone say "im going to see such and such" unless they were referring to a concert. Ive noticed that here practically everyone says "im going to see (insert dj)"

Now, i am or the belief that you dont go to "see" a dj, you go to "hear" him. ive taken several inventories of this and the conclusion seems to be the same with the people i know.

Could this just be a reflection of the younger generation's facination with the pop and image aspects of DJ culture as opposed to the art itself?

I hope not

I go to hear a DJ but seeing him is just as much of the experience in some cases.

Case in point; Dumonde. They jump around, point out specific people in the crowd and always have nothing but smiles and to me that kind of thing makes my night a considerable amount more enjoyable and gives me that extra boost of energy..

Same goes for Above and Beyond, nothing but energy, too bad they were in the birdcage though.

ah but if you are going to watch their techniques such as scratching, mixing etc thats one thing. My beef is with the djs who do 8 beat mixes and stand there and pose the rest of the time. and people go to see that. the music becomes moot at that point.

proving my point above comes this post...... good timing! LOL

Yes, but in defense of amazing producer/DJs... many of them produce fantastic tracks, but can just barely beatmatch because producing is what they did first. Granted, they should work on it, but there is a lot of deserved leeway given to producers when it comes to their mixing skills.

Adam Freeland is both a brilliant DJ and producer!
