yeah.
but putting up samples is probably the most unreal idea i've heard so far, and discogs deserve some "donations" because of the hard work the staff is doing and has done for ages, for a resource people take as granted today |

Yes, the original idea was stupid. But nontheless, there's nothing wrong with some brainstorming.
...and the major work on Discogs is done by the contributors, not the staff, AFAIK. Not to discredit the staff or anything... |

i think in theory this is a wonderful idea, but as people are saying not very realistic. i mean it'd be great if when people added a release and the artwork for it that they could also upload like a 1 min low bitrate sample or something kinda the way that tranceaddict does for its unknown tracks. i know that i'd think that was awesome as it's always hard to find samples online of older tracks, but if something like that was done...i wouldn't have a problem with it being only for premium members of the site.
that being said...i think discogs is still great the way it is. |

| well positive and negative criticism thats fine. i just saw it as the next step for discogs. i mean if they started now with all the updated releases, it would slowly fall into place. |

Please.
Discogs can barely stay online as it is in its current text incarnate, putting media on the site would bring it to its knees. The only way that would be possible is through a subscription, or heavy advertisement/sponsorhip.
Do you feel like paying for it? |

| uhm.. can't they start selling discogs merchandise or something? like discogs t-shirts, discogs pens, discogs cereals, discogs toilet paper.. that would totally rock. |

I knew some ppl would bitch about the pending queue rate.. its down to around 2500 at the mo, a LOT of moderators have put in very hard work! the queue used to be in the 6000-8000 mark!!!! so bloody unreasonable some people :-/
btw, I think maybe a feature could be added to hotlink samples from shops for people to listen to of each song? rather than hosting any samples, ppl can submit hotlinks to samples? |

| someone should use a better business model and build another relational database and copy all of the publicly available information from discogs. |

I agree. Images are processed rather quickly though, but new releases and simple updates usually takes more than a month. |
