Pioneer CDJ-800 and CDJ-1000mk2 questions . . .

Ok, so I finally decided to take the financial plunge and jump into the CD world but I had a couple of questions about the Pioneer units:
1) Are there any "must-have" features that the CDJ-1000MK2 has that the CDJ-800 doesn't? Meaning, some really great things or great sound quality difference that make spending the extra money to get the 1000's a must? I will be using them for bedroom DJ use so I don't think I need the 1000's extra features.
2) Which sellers, online or local (LA area), have these units for the best prices?
Thanks,

the only key feature I like on the CDJ 1000 is the platter control. You have total control of the platter. You dont with the CDJ 800. Otherwise, the basic features of the 800 work just fine. I specially love the instant loops, which btw, the 1000 don't have. Also, the CDJ800 is made of cheaper materials, it's lighter.
On other words, for bedroom DJing, the 800 is perfect! Heck, I heard that the CDJ200 kicks ass too and it plays MP3s. |

| Platter control? Doesn't the 800 have a vinyl mode that allows this or is this something different? When I hear platter control I'm thinking that if you are mixing and the mix gets a little off, you can push forward or backward on the platter to speed up/slow down to correct the mix? |

you are correct. That's why the 1000 has the platter adjust. You can make that push really sensative, or really rough. With the 800, it's set to one mode permanently... REALLY SENSATIVE. With the 800, if you "push" too fast, you will go off beat easily. It just takes some use to. Once you get comfortable with it, you'll be fine! Personally, I have the 800's and I love them!

For me, there are several features that I LOVE about the 1000 that 800 doesn't support.
The accuracy of the tempo settings. The 800 is only accurate to +/- 5 while the 1000 is good up to +/- 2 and all the way up to 100 for the MK2. When you are doing 2-3 minute transitions, this is good cuz if you have the tempo locked in right, you rarely have to fine tune/adjust during a mix. The 800, you cannot read the data text on the CD. This is extremely helpful for me because I tend to put about 8 tracks on each CD and I dont create a CD insert/text printout of the track listing for every CD. The reverse is a switch vs a button and this is cool when you do tricks with that switch. The button is not as responsive as the switch lever. The MK2 gets rid of the cueing issue. If you do any type of scratching, the 800 and even the original 1000 sucks cuz there will sometimes be a delay when cueing. I am getting an MK2 specifically for that reason plus it has a more smoother and realistic platter control and vinyl response. They put more thought into the platter in the MK2. As for me, the 1000 is worth the extra dough cuz if you get the 800's, you'll want to be upgrading very soon.

1000 has the memory stick, cueing is no more! i don't know why people don't use it more often, i carry mine around everytime i play.
1000 is an over all better unit, Dj woody is right about the platter control there is actually a 270 degree nob that allows for exact precision or loose pick up. |

| I dont with the platter. leave it @ default cuz you dont want to get use to a custom setting. most/all clubs/venues use the default. |

So is the default on the 1000 comparable to the fixed setting on the 800 or is 800's non-changeable setting more or less sensitive to speed adjustment? |

Yes, they're similar.
Let's be realistic...
$1200 for ONE CDJ 1000?
or
$1200 for TWO CDJ 800's? |

| I got a refurb 1000mk2 for about $750.00. Still brand new from pioneer except for a tiny piece of string (barely noticable unless you look deep) inside the middle of the platter display. |
