Switching to Traktor

Hey. I'm thinking of selling my TT's (sniff sniff) and replace it with Traktor or some other similar program. My main reason being I just don't have the money to spend on vinyl. I have a couple of questions and would greatly appreciate it if any of you could help me out. I am running a g3 ibook that runs apps pretty well, the ram is maxed out on it. If I was going to play a gig, what exactly would I need? I would need to be able to listen to the cued track through headphones, so would I need another sound card? Can you swap soundcards on macs? Also, could I plug my mixer into my computer? Would that work? Thanks again

CDJS!!!!

but if not, yea a g3 should be able to run it (how much is maxed out ram) also, many great usb/firewire soundcards out there...and by plugging in your mixer, i hope you mean using line out/speaker from your ibook to line in on the mixer? or if you have a ecler nuo4 can plug in directly as a midi controller to the computer.

M-Audio Firewire Audiophile or Firewire 410. They have more inputs and outputs than you need but these work OK.

I use an Echo Audio "Indigo DJ" card with Traktor on a Toshiba laptop, the card plugs into the PCMCIA cardbus slot but iBooks don't have that slot so you need to use USB or Firewire.

Note Traktor 3 is coming out soon and may be able to use more of your soundcard inputs/outputs such as if you use an external mixer (it has up to 4 virtual CD decks while Traktor 2.x has only 2 decks).
