I drive through that interchange everyday and its the biggest pain ever. Adding more lanes isn't going to solve anything. Why didn't they dumb this money in proper transit going North of Steeles, like extending the subway? Soo lame.

truth be told they needed to widen that section between 404 and dvp from 2 lanes to at least 3. However i think this new addition will still keep it to 2 regular lanes which would be really dumb.

On the topic of dumb highway construction. I've been watching crews work on the 403 for well over a year now. WTF are they doing?!?!?! They've widened it where it turns north and heads to the 401. But its still 2 lanes!! The new and improved shoulder is now WIDER BY FAR than any lane.

Anyone know what the hell is goin on?

More HOV (High occupancy vehicle lanes) on the 403 as well. Call it the politically correct way of justifying highway construction.

Your Liberal government at work for you!

Nothing, NOTHING will ever compare to Hollywood Freeway at 4:30pm on a Friday in August. NOTHING.

If everyone took a chance to read the entire article, you'll noticed it is on a delay constructions schedule to study the effects of each lane change individually so that they are able to minimize the ensuing traffic backups due to construction. Each change is implemented one at a time and then evaluated to ensure that a durastic permanent change is not made without evaluated the potential consquences.

It is real easy to sit back and complain while providing no alternatives to the problem (that ofcourse being the volume of traffic).

The commity in charge of this planning has thought of many options that most people can not comprehend let alone plan.

In this instance you have a quantity of vehicles, and a quantity of people moving estentially to 3 major areas of the city. The most obvious problem is people moving to the downtown core. Option 1: Increase the capacity of our current highway system (this being ofcourse at an extreme cost to the tax payers). Option 2: Find another way for these people to get where they are going.

Clearly option 2 is more feasible, better for the environment, and given the current market for fuel: better for OUR pocket books.

The solution of building a isolated and dedicated highway structure for high occupancy vehicles not only makes it quicker for those that take the bus downtown, but it will also make it quicker for those that choose to use the current highway structure because less people will be on the pre-exsisting traffic system.

um...the 400 series traffic is the highest volume traffic in North America by far... ;)

i read something awhile back that said that HOV lanes are a failure. They are hard to enforce and actually INCREASE accidents. Apparently when traffic is slow idiots will decide to pull into the fast moving HOV at slow speeds creating a hazardous situation.

I think HOV lanes were picked because its a relatively cheap method of making the public believe that something is being done when it isnt. If they really wanted to deal with transport problems, they would add subway lines, trains, train lines, and improve bus services, especially in suburbs.

Not only that but theyd stop the poor planning thats going on with urban sprawl and make things more people friendly.

Last but not least, THEY WOULD BUILD MORE ROADS. Yes i know this last option is not politically correct but even with all the transit in the world, we clearly do not have enough highways in Toronto for the population. I can think of 2 that could be built in populated areas right now. There are several hydro corridors that zig zag the city that could be utilized. Most notably the one from DVP south of eglinton across to the 401 near pickering. What a great highway that would be! Would take pressure off parts of the DVP and 401! Also right across the north end along finch. Sure seneca would have no parking spaces, but im sure they are rich enough to build a garage with the rates they charge.
