anyone have any opinion on this master keyboard?
I am wondering if it is any good or if I should keep my CME UF5 (which I have the option to return). However, the mk-461c is $150 more than the UF5. Or the Korg Kontrol which is $350 more?
Any help will be greatly appriciated as I have to make a decision by Saturday.

I have an mk 461C, it has served me well.
I imagine the more expensive Korg keyboard is better somehow.
I dont think of my midi controller as something that is a very important thing to have. You can probably get by with the one you have, you just have to see what is different about the mk461 and ask yourself if it is worth paying $150 for those things. I find that I leave one hand on the keyboard and the other on the computer, then do trial and error until I stumble upon a pattern I like, and I just keep doing that until I am satisfied with my patterns then I move stuff around and play with the computer side a bit more. So I dont really need many fancy keyboard features and dont really have a need for any special kind of device. I dont mind that the mk461 feels plasticy or doesnt have aftertouch and stuff like that, but maybe you will. I think I would be more picky about my keyboard if I was trained in piano or something, but my background is more in computers than musical instruments, so my midi controller doesnt really make that much of a difference to me. If it was my decision I would not bother putting so much thought into my choice of keyboard.
One thing I really do enjoy about the evolution mk though, is that it worked on my linux machine with zero tweaking required. Evidently the mk follows some standard that allows the linux drivers to be able to work with the thing. I was really lucky with that because I dont have the money for windows programs. Maybe if you are interested in linux you would pick this keyboard, I really doubt you are interested in linux though. Lotsa other keyboards require firmware upgrades and really annoying driver stuff to get them working on the linux machine but I didnt have to deal with any of that mess.
Mainly I use my keyboard for its knobs which help in programming a synth and I also use it to step record patterns and stuff, I dont do much realtime playing or recording with it at all. I haven't found a need for the buttons and display on the top left of the keyboard, which I imagine is what makes the thing so pricey. Evidently you can use it to do sysex commands and bind the knobs to specific channels and stuff, supposedly you can also use it to save presets or something, I haven't really messed with it very much at all. I am very curious what it can be used for though, if anyone uses those top-left buttons on the evolution I would be very interested in knowing what they can be used for. |

Check the Novation Remote-25 out.

These controllers have an excellent feel and are very high quality. I have the remote 25 and it has templates for all the most popular synths and logic/cubase. |

I have the mk461c and it is a great keyboard (especially for it's price).
My only bug bear is that it doesn't have aftertouch. I guess that would have upped the cost which is why Evolution didn't put it in.
The pots, buttons and sliders are all good though! :) |
