The device has attracted the attention of beer vendors in North America, including a leading Canadian brewer, according to Michael Schmitz, one of the supervisors of the project.
"They wanted to know if they could use it or make it themselves," he said. "The prototype cost about 84 euros to make one but if mass produced, it could be done for around 10 euros." |

Regardless of the laziness of drunks.. i have to say that is a PRETTY impressive invention....
leave it to those crazy university kids! This invention is a really great idea for bars to make money!the drunker ppl get the less objections they give for more alcohol which in turn can lead to some large tabs to pay off at the end of a night!

Eh, neat idea but why the hell hasn't this been done before? It's just a scale with some lights on it, put an empty glass on it, hit a tare button, badda bing badda boom it has your glasses' weight, when you slam that ****** back down on it after chugging your pint of draught it starts flashing.
It should also have a recorded voice that says things like "BEER ME WENCH" and so on. |

My thoughts exactly. It's not really complicated, since all the separate technologies are there already. Just a matter of merging them really.
What happens when the coaster starts getting soaked from glass sweat? :p
I assume they've waterproofed the thing, without removing it's spilled beer absorbing powers.
It seems like a really unsociable thing too. Just sitting there getting refills, and nothing else. If you're drunk and lonely, at least you can talk to the bar staff. With the coaster, you probably wouldn't even bother. |
