Progressive VS Techno (pg. 2)

Tracks these days are way too hard to categorize. So many songs just use elements from multiple genres.

Yeah, It has become increasingly dificult to catagorize many of the new tunes out there. |

Prog = Boring beats with even longer slower boring mixes and buildups
Techno = Less boring beats with fast, creative and interesting mixes and short cuts (if mixed well)
Both are good if done well but I definately have more respect for techno DJs. |

| I prefer prog much more than techno. Prog has more layers, more emotion and is less frantic and chaotic. Sure some techno is good, but a whole set of that stuff would drive me nuts. I like how DJs like Carl Cox can play a techno set, but it's not always "bang, bang, bang", sure he can be really bangin' and boomin' lol, but he kind of spices things up with house (the harder, funkier or more tribal variety usually), some breaks and even a little trance and prog here and there. Prog just has different feelings to it, like it can be really techy and pretty hard like DJ Remy or Santiago Nino, or really emotional and melodic like Perry O'Neil or Alucard (I know..more like trance, but considered "progressive trance" by most). |

There's enough techno out there that has plenty of both.
For me definitely techno, although I'm pretty picky about it at times.. I can't stand most of todays progressive, but I'm a big fan of the Baroque / Hooj / Bedrock / etc. sound from around 2000. |

Maybe emotional is not the exact word I'd use but there certainly is a lot of stuff out there that has a certain warmth to it. I thought you'd know though :p
Have a look for Solid Sessions - Visions. Although it's more tech-house than techno, it's a definite goodie.
I'd also like to mention Deetron - What if (tomorrow never comes), I'm not too keen on his usual stuff but this track is a great listen.
Sure there's plenty more out there.. Kanzleramt does some good stuff, and of course there's loads of awesome Detroit-like tracks, but I suck at names.
As I said, emotional might not be the right word for the atmosphere they have, but it's far from the rattling no-brainer plant noise some people keep associating techno with. |

juno samples FTW, i think everyone on this site needs to start using them more :D
i can see how you mean with the 'certain warmth'... although it's subtle in that example. i'll have a look through those others though since i like most stuff with an atmospheric air to it. just the only techno i've really listened to up until now has been harder dancefloor orientated stuff (yes i'm a relative newbie, shoot me down!) |

That Solid Sessions mix might be a little hard to come by though. If you can't find it but are really appealed by the tracklist hit me up on PM and I'll see what I can do for you :) |
