In need of some help! I'm headed to Kitchener this weekend with family to do the Oktoberfest thing and wanted a few recommendations for pubs to visit in the area (if there are any). OK, laugh if you will...I must give up the Guv this weekend (well, maybe not Saturday), but family calls and I only see them once every few months. I'm looking for a non-dance club type of place that will be open late on Sunday and Monday night. Thanks for any suggestions!!! :toothless

I've got tickets for a few of the halls that are hosting festivities, but most close at 9:00 on Sunday and Monday. I was wondering if there is anywhere local that would be worth going to for a few late night drinks. I've come across "The Still" on line - not sure if it would be worth checking out...

hey miss m

dont do the still its a patio of this top 40 club and cause its cold it aint gonna work (even if it did its in downtown kitchener so you'll be surrounded with crackheads and thugs).

kitchener is like a ghost tpwn, i doubt you'll find anything interesting here so i would reccomend you to go to waterloo and check it out.

symposium is a nice little place if you wanna have some drinks with your friends and family and its open till 2 am (i think).

rude native is also cool place, check it out if you wanna eat with yer drinking ;)

what else?

jane bond is awesome place with acoustic music but its been ages since i was there last time so it could easily be closed lol.

everything else is either too loud, packed with drunk students and wannabe gangsta's.

o yeah, there is this cool irish pub i forgot the name.

and all this is right in the middle of uptown waterloo.

sorry if i wasnt really of any help, i hate going out here (if you wanna pm me and i can ask around some more)

HAHAHA!!

:) That was good :)

Miss M, as Xavier mentioned, the best place to go in K-W is downtown Waterloo. Much nicer crowd of people and better places.

ALL ON THE KING ST. STRETCH FROM WILLIAM ST. E. DOWN TO BRIDGEPORT RD. W.:

Filte's is the name of the Irish Pub I think Xavier was referring to, but it is usually jam packed full of people on bar hopping nights. VERY small, sometimes has live music. Never stayed in there long enough to give a fair opinion. Near the corner of King and Bridgeport, across the street from the postal office. Paddy Flaherty's is right next door, but they may or may not be open due to renovations, not to mention I have never been there myself so I don't know if it's good or not.

Symposium is actually one of my most favourite hangouts. Good food and drink selections, amazing desserts and a very nice setting. A great venue if you want a quieter place to hang. Right on the corner of King St. and Erb.

If you don't mind things being loud and rowdy, there is McMullans. I am guessing it will be jam packed with Uni and College students, but if you can scam a seat there, it's not too bad. Right on the corner of King and Princess.

Silver Spur is a Karoke bar. Pretty fun place to go if you have a good sense of humour, and if you're tanked and want to sing :) Corner of King and Dupont.

There is Barley Works, which is the upstairs part of the Heuther Hotel, (which also has a cafe, a restaurant, and pool tables on lower floors). Not half bad, and there is an outside patio if you're smokers. Near the corner of King and Bridgeport, across the street from the postal office.

As a warning though, I suspect that most of these places will be pretty nutty. Oktoberfest brings out A LOT of partiers, so if you're looking for quiet and quaint, not many places in town will be your thing I reckon.

Hopefully this is helpful. I cut out a couple of the other bars simply because they aren't super great.

If you really don't mind the crazy loud bars, there is Molly Blooms in the University plaza, and a smaller Sports bar. These are located on the University St. W and Lester St. and/or Phillip St. intersections. There are nice restaurants, some bubble tea shops (I recommed "Sweet Dreams Tea shop" beside the "Mongolian Grill",) and some other restaurants like McGinnis Front Row, and the Sushi shop. This plaza though also has a club, so don't be surprised if it's swamped with people.

HAVE FUN :D!!

And if you have any other questions about any other places, feel free to PM me. I have been almost everywhere in this city :)

Thanks for all of the info - I will keep a few of the places you mentioned in mind. Although I'm going with family, I'm sure it will be a regular drunk-fest as usual.
