OPP will be reinstituting aerial survellence on 400 series highways. They havnt done this since 1981.
I saw them practicing near aurora rd last week.
Sure why not? Instead of raising speed limits to where they should be, they find new ways shake even more nickles and dimes out of us.
so anyone who has ever said "when pigs fly" had better start living up to that promise!!!

| holy dude...lol...i respect your political views and awareness of everything going on in this country, but man, does anybody do anything right in your eyes?....i mean, i agree with you on how shady it is chasing speeders with planes but when it comes down to it, if you're caught speeding, no matter which way they do it, it's your own fault not the governments |

except that the speed limits should be raised. Speeding is the least of the problems on our highways but the easiest way to generate revenue.
make the speed limit 120 and then nail speeders... but our highways are designed to handle 120 and the government knows it.
why not go after tailgaters, reckless drivers, and slow pokes in the left lane instead? |

true....maybe the planes would be more effective in going after all the tailgaters, reckless drivers, and slow pokes in the left lane as well as the speeders
as for raising the speed limit to 120, this is a debate that has been going on since i've started driving, and it's always the arguement of .."if we raise it to 120, people will go 140/150". And raising it to 120 will make the pylons that are scared enough going 100 that much more dangerous |

In optimal conditions. As soon as there is water, snow, ice, crap or whatever on the highway, the safe speed drops quite a bit. the Speedlimit is there for safety in the widest range of weather conditions. |

I think, most people will stick to 120 ish because that's what most people drive on highways anyways. But yes, there will be always few who want to go faster and those guys already go 150.
Considering what fuel costs, people might not be so eager to go fast... |

Ever heard of variable speed limits? Ie, when there is litle traffic, nice wheater it's 130 or so, when it's crappy weather and/or much traffic it is perhaps 100. Makes a lot more sense.
And who the hell would drive 120 in a snowstorm anyway?! |

Exactly. The roads are designed for a higher speed than 100km/hr because they are designed with a standard factor of safety in order to cover off worst case senerio conditions. Just because you can safely drive the road at 120km/hr at optimal times does not mean the speed limit should be set at that.
If the speed limit were raised people would still try and push that limit and try to get away with driving faster so we have to keep control of it somehow.
I do think though that more attention should be paid to reckless driving. Speed does kill but a reckless driver...no matter what the speed...is a menace. |

^^^^ ah, the good ol engineering safety factor!

Yes i have heard of them, and you would be really surprised at people when they drive. I was caught driving on the 401 to toronto from waterloo in the big rain storm this summer and there were people ripping past at speeds well over 110. |

how about a higher speed limit and rigourous enforcement instead of making criminals out of pretty much everyone who drives?
As for storms. well yeah there are always going to be some idiots. But one could make the arguement that they shouldnt be going 100 either.
As for those scared to drive fast. The solution is simple. Post the minimum speed limit as being 100 and enforce it the same way as the maximum. Also, go after those pokie drivers that hog the left lane. |

| Remind me to come break into your house when all the cops are out rigourously enforcing the upper and lower speed limits. :) |
