so the light on my cable modem hasnt blinked in the last 4 hours. its just been on constantly and it shows. my internet and all my downloads are running slower than hell. tried transfering a file to some dude i know and it was going at 1 kb/s and when i was downloading updates for jetaudio, they were pushing a solid 4kb/s.

something is eating up my bandwidth like a mother and i wanna know what. is there any software i can get my hands on or something that could tell me what programs are running that are using it, etc.

its REALLY annoying waiting 30 seconds for a 60kb picture to load.

You probably have some trojan horse some nice hacker is using to tie up your bandwith by downloading information from your PC.

Enjoy.

Task manager... if you're running XP or Win2K. Hit ctrl+alt+del and click on "Task manager" (or it should come up right away). Also, you can run things like netmon (network monitor) but that's advanced stuff baby... no way I could explain that in 2 lines.

In win2K3 server you can see what sucks up your bandwidth from task manager (there's a Networking tab that shows what's sucking up your performance).

Also, do you have any file sharing programs like Kazaa or other crap? Are you seeding any torrents?

just some things to keep in mind.
