The thread's still funny, it just has educational content now too. :p Besides, let's not forget the real aim here, which is to reduce the number of stupid questions on this forum; making fun of the n00bs won't stop them or even slow them down, but hopefully some "easy answers" just might! |

But there are other ways...
Yelling at them..
or warning others of impending noobs by way of signage:
or T-shirts!

| good work diginut, that should be made in a new thread, called 'Newbie Producer FAQ' or something and then stickied |

| Noobs should be restricted to just the stickies for at least a month, so they can absorb all the info. I am up for it, heheh. Or, just read instead of posting. |

| this forum needs stickies like 'the fight against oomp-a-itis'- that thread was actually useful and had a tonne of resources for people to use. vote to get that restickied. would hopefully solve a load of 'how do i make this bassline?' threads. would help if the title was changed to something more obvious though. like 'want to make trance basslines? click me!' |

The stickies we have are useful, there are just too many of them. It's psychological - when there are one or two stickies, they demand attention, but when there are 10 of them, they seem to be "in the way" and ALL get ignored.
We don't need to add more stickies about every common question - we need to have *one* thread with all the common questions that links to the other useful threads/pages. That's the only possible way to keep things organized.
It wouldn't hurt to have one other sticky with something like "most useful threads on this forum" - but again, it would have to be a closed or regularly-cleaned thread in order to serve any purpose. All the stickies are a mess, they don't help new users find the answers they're looking for. |

diginut: can't you PM one of the mods here and ask him to rearrange the stickies. Your answers in your previous post are really good so an idea might be to have thoose together with links to the existing stickies. That's an easy way to keep it all in one thread.
Or maybe it would be good with two stickys, one with all the info and links and one that states a zero tolerance against warez here on TA.
I've noticed several threads latley with people asking for invites to warez-torrentsites, if people wanna pirate stuff, fine but it's not good to handle it via TA since TA can get loads of because of it...
just a thought :) |

Good idea. I'll post something in the Site Suggestions later today, see how it's taken. |

i see where you are coming from but squeezing all the frequently asked questions and answers + tutorials and such into 1 thread...
it would be about 900 pages long, of which, your average forum newbie would probably read the first, maybe also second page, then give up and post a topic like 'how do i make this fat sound like ferry corsten uses in all of his tunes?'
ive got a tutorial on the basics of music theory in the works and it currently weighs in at 8 pages, single spaced and its not finished. i think that would at least clear up a tonne of 'chord progression' questions.
the 'oompa itis' thread was awesome because everyone who asked how to make a bassline just got directed to that sticky. then it got unstickied and we had to answer all the questions again :(
then theres the questions about VSTs, which ones are good? which synth can make a sound like
for organisations sake it just makes sense to have 1 sticky on music and composition. 1 on mixing and sound designing. 1 on mastering etc. all with really clear names like: 'the all purpose sound design thread'
all respective questions/comments/appendixes to be put in those threads. when they get bloated to about 800 replies it could be unstickied and a new one called 'the all purpose sound design thread 2' could be stickied. everyone knows the thread name so its easily found.
i dunno.
that or sub forums like on audiopioneers.net. thats a really clean layout and its easy to find stuff there. |

Very good point, but I still think if the main post is just an index with links to tutorials like yours... it would never be more than a few pages.
so it wouldn't matter if all the great posts were not sticky'ed as the one post that is has the links to all of them listed under the question.
by the way.. I look forward to that chord progression tutorial, nice work!! |
