Ok so at the end of November I will be getting some money to put forward to a complete DJ setup in my house.
It should be around the sum of 4500 euro or close to 5000 USD.
I want to know what you guys would do in terms of equiptment and such.
Most likely will be getting:
2 Turntables
2 CDJs
1 Mixer
Monitors
Amp
etc
What do you suggest? |

2 x tecnics m5g
2 x pioneer cdj 1000
figure out the mixer yourself, play with them, touch them, fondle them..
1 x Sony 7506 or Sennheiser sp25
1k left for active speakers - give a listen to what you like |

2* cdj800's
vestax 'good' mixer
some 'sennheiser!' headfones
then get a decent pro audio pc. with cubase/logic/protools/etc.. and a decent soundcard. an a virus polar...:) then you can make your own music insted of just playing others's music:) my main keyboard was passed down from a family friend who passed away... i feel good to be making use of his prized posesion and making music from my heart:)
should leave you with a few hundred to spend on cd-r's/ mp3 legal downloads/hhb circle 5 monitors.
id do something like that if i had that sort of cash! |

2 Technics SL1200/1210MK5
1 Mixer (whatever)
Some Headphones (try em on, see if they feel good)
Six-pack of beer
and $3,000 worth of records
That's what I'd do. |

| DJ RJT |
2 x Technics SL1200m5g
2 x Pioneer CDJ 1000mk2
1 x Allen & Heath Xone (62 or 92, it's your money)
1 x Pioneer HDJ1000 Headphones
I'm lost on speakers... I'd just buy some nice studio monitors for the time being, and spend any excess on money...
Condolences on your loss... but enjoy your gear man... :D |

2 Turntables (Technics)
* Its absolutely your choice which model you get, because they for the most part, are all the same. I dont think you will ever use the +/-16% on the MK5's. :p
2 CDJs (Pioneers CDJ-1000)
* They are the industry standard, period.
1 Mixer (Allen & Heath)
* Again, absolutely your choice which to get, they are all great mixers
Monitors (Event TR-8XL)
* The best monitors for the money. And this saves you money on an amplifier because these monitors are biamplified.
Totals...
$850 (2 Techs MK2) + $1800 (2 CDJs) + $1500 (Xone:92 L) + $550 (TR-8XL) = $4750 + ship (@$4900)
Cheaper...
$850 (2 Techs MK2) + $1800 (2 CDJs) + $1000 (Xone:62 L) + $550 (TR-8XL) = $4250 + ship (@$4400)
Cheaperr...
$850 (2 Techs MK2) + $1100 (2 CDJ-800s) + $1500 (Xone:92 L) + $550 (TR-8XL) = $4050 + ship (@$4200)
Cheaperrr...
$850 (2 Techs MK2) + $1100 (2 CDJ-800s) + $1000 (Xone:62 L) + $550 (TR-8XL) = $3550 + ship (@$3700)
All of these are of course estimates and assumptions on price. ;) |

Exactly what he said, although I'd go with the Sony MDR-V700 for phones. Excellent quality, and they fixed the problem with them cracking. |

| We can all suggest heaphones, but its his ears that have to make the decision about what is good for him. |

Yep. It'd probably be better for you to just like, make a list of everything you see here and head to your local shop, try out everything and see what you feel most comfortable with. |

+1, but buy two pairs of headphones just in case, you know?
...... or.. I would probably buy....
2x CDJ-1000's
2x Tech12's
2x Sony 7506's
1 nice-ass mixer with built in midi controller (xone:92??)
1 nice-ass laptop with ableton
actually, i would seriously think about skipping the tech's and buying some of the expensive production proggies like Reason or FL... but only if that's your thing... meh |

Here's what I would get:
Allen & Heath Xone:92
2 Technics SL-1200MK5, or M5Gs (I'm not doing the math, I'm just making recommendations) w/ Ortofon Night Club-S
2 Pioneer CDJ-1000MKII
Ultrasone DJ-1 Pro headphones
As for speakers, go to a store and listen
When you're ready to buy, do it online. Great deals are to be had at places like agiprodj.com. Make sure you e-mail or call for prices though. Never pay list, or MAP! |
