well the last couple of days ive really been wracking my brain with this the notion of loosing all mp3s has occured time and time again it just pops into m head "what if someone accidently deletes all my mp3 folder" (all of its in one folder), what if my hdd dies or something like that... its pretty bad ive put alot of work/bandwith into my folder its only around 6 gig but its tracks i have hand selected/wanted/rare ones and i would be devestated if i lost it (as i use it to burn all my audio cds!) now i have a burner but i cant seriously be ed sitting down and burning 40+ cds (cause i plan to burn ALL my mp3s if i burn em) after i get a big hdd or something i found a handy tool called folder guard to prevent anyone 'accidently' deleting the folder but the thught still wracks my brain! uh! i just couldn't loose all those mp3s! nooooooooooooo thats why im a bit sceptical in getting a big hdd i really want one but i dont wanna put it all ont hier and find out it dies :P (ive heard alot of big hdds die easily) (i have a 15 gig atm) so my question to yous :P is that is thier any other viable backup method? or am i gonna be burning alot of cds :)
ps. that whole BT thing fuels it now :)

I say the safest way is to burn loads of CD's..

hi
i agree with dj alonzo
i recently burned all my livesets, vids and stuff like that on cd, it would be a pain in the ass if i would loose them...
i donŽt have many single mp3s (800mb), but iŽll back them up soon, too.
so go burn your stuff, and if you have a 16x burner then a cd only takes 5 mins, ok multiplied with 40 are still almost 5h of burning.
however cds are best way imo.
bye

burning is the only solution ... i have a 16x burner (thank God) and it helps a lot

I'm still stuck with a 4X Burner :( ..... gonna replace it to 16X soon tho.

I saw this and it takes me back to the TWO times my comp has crashed and i lost EVERYTHING! not just 40 gigs of mp3s, but apps, games, old documents that i wanted to keep, just a ton of important stuff!!

I am still working on ressurecting my collection (it died about 2 months ago) and luckily I have a lot burned on AUDIO cd, but archiving is not my bag. I think its a pain in the ass and a waste of CDs, plus, what would I do with 40GIGS???? thats a ton of CDs...

anyways, about your HDD comment, bigger HDDs arent less reliable than smaller ones. Trust me, its my job to know. I have 3 20 gig HDDs and never have had any problems at all. Its not usual to have things happen like they happen to me as long as you leave system files and the registry ALONE! I always do like that and I guess it the price you pay. anyways, i suggest you buy a big drive, like 40G... itll only cost like 80 bucks on sale now and you can double and triple up on copies of a collection your size. Plus you can use it for other , not just mp3s and itll take a TON less time.

later, hope it helps a bit......

well i just finished backing it all up (yep it got to me :D) on a 8x burner so it took me a while :D but yeah its so much more peace of mind now......... unless i get some BT Style robbery happening *eep*

best thing to do is get a hdd that is BIG (60 gig) as they are cheapish now, and then use your old hdd as a backup, copying all ya new mp3s over every now and again
