have to agree, canada customs is a bitch.. they will judge a value for what's being shipped and bill you compared to their made up value..
when i used to do a lot of computer h/w trading, i found that the only packages (even when marked as gift) that i didn't get charged for, had to be marked as less than $50 value.. of course i assume you'd be getting it insured so they kinda negate each other.. |

my friend received jewelery fron Israel and customs charged her 60 dollars to get a gift. she sent it back.

you can requent to get money from customs back.
one time they way over charged me for duty on records so the lady at the post office gave me a form to fill out and then they sent me a cheque.
ing customs, im always getting nailed on vinyls coming in from the UK. |

i think i just knew by the amount of duty vs the amount of records i had ordered. much more than in past expierences so i looked into it further. |

ahh you're several months late...i used to bring back camera equipment for my best friend when i was at school in the US...he saved thousands of dollars on duties that way.
but yeah, if you can have it shipped at a gift but i doubt the company will do that |

So I called UPS to find out the charges and fees and whatnot and taxes and fees will come up to something like 280 bucks.

| I don't think they allow anything to be marked as "gift" anymore. I was recently sent a package as an "unsolicited gift" that was marked as a $25 USD value, and it's apparent that Customs tore it apart and slapped me with $16 in fees. Woooo! |
