..would he always sound like Fabric 20?? :wtf:

He's so good with CDs/vynil I'd afraid to think of what he would come up with using the software...the mixing in Fabric 20 is nuts.

Fabric 20 is an album, so it might have been touched up a bit. That said, Digweed is pretty consistent on the decks.

In regards to Ableton:

quote:
John Digweed: I've used Ableton and have to say it's amazing technology. It's a difficult balance to make really. The development of the whole scene goes hands in hand with the development in technology and you can't just sit on things and let them stagnate saying you like the way things are so that's that!
Personally, I play a lot from CD these days. It's practically easier and the sound quality is unaffected. I have a soft spot for vinyl but not for carrying 150 records round an airport! I'm not sure what the future holds but at the speed of development of these things expect more to come in the future.

DRE: What does Digweed think of it?

Sasha: I think he’s definitely interested. I saw a quote somewhere that he was definitely interested in using it in the future. Once he gets his hands on the equipment, it’ll be exciting. I think that this technology at the moment is still very much kind of studio based, but once something cheaper comes out to the market and the software is really tailor-made for DJs then I really think it’ll catch on. At the moment the amount of work and resources that went into getting this thing together makes it something not everyone would be able to do.

I haven't heard of John using it at a gig yet. Has he?

I know where you're going with that - the "physical" skills, scratching etc aren't there, but what a lot of people don't perhaps realise, including progressive/trance DJs themselves quite often  is that there is an innate skill involved in layering and programming to make sure that the think melodies fit together naturally. The amount of godawful keyclashing you hear, even on professional compiled CDs, is ridiculous. Even with digital technologies and months to get it right, it still sounds like a mudge. This is often driven by commercial pressure to include certain tracks.

Digweed's (album) mixing has always shown a very sensitive ear and an understanding of the ebb and flow of a set. You can't learn that, so I would agree - his mixing is breathtaking at times. Just in a very subtle way.
