In some ways.. you have to ask yourself why a genre becomes commercial as well.. is it publicity? quality?

exposure, yes. quality, doubtful.

i dunno. ironically, dr. dre invented g-funk which everyone who is not really into hiphop seem to praise, even thought it's the genre that pretty much has all the clichés hiphop are accused for today.
