technics mk2 pitch modifying....

when you adjust the pitch to gain an extra +1-5% does it take the additional say +2% from the - range. So if you got an extra +2% taking it to 10% do you end up with only -6%?

just wondering cos im constantly finding myself wanting more pitch (cant afford mk5's yet so dont tell me to upgrade :tongue2) so if I could mod my pitch to have -3% to +11% id be dead happy. Im hardly ever lower than +2%!!

So has anyone heard of this?

No it doesn't work like that, but you can turn the pitch gain up, which will increase the pitch range.

while sacrificing accuracy im guessing since the pitch range would be wider. Anyone adjusted their pitch range? Want to know if its worth doing before I go ahead and do it :)

Dont do it dude.
Take my friendly advise : the wider the pitch range the harder it becomes to zero down to the correct pitch.:)
Just program your set so that the record or digital file you are cueing up is at the same tempo range.:)
Dont mess with the pitch you will regret it.
Just my 2 cents:)

As Harriz said, if you pitch up your decks you'll have to make tiny adjustments to get the correct pitch. I pitched my MK2's up to around +/-16% and there are times when tiny taps on the slider are needed to get the pitch exact.
Of course you will be able to beat a greater number of tracks, especially if you have an older classic that just won't get there on +8%, but the downside is that you may not be able to do this when playing out unless the club has theirs pitched up too, so can't include it in a set.

I'd say give it a go, if you don't like it just put it back the away it was (I'm assuming that the performance will be exactly as it was, if you do). There is also an adjustment you can make for when you press the Start/Stop button. I've set mine to give a longer "scratch" as the record stops as before it sounded too short. Now it sounds a bit better when using it to mix out.

Mind you I DJ'd Hard House/NRG/Techno. I don't know how trance tracks will sound on +16%

id be happy with an extra +1-2% cos im usually playing at +4-8%.. Annoys the hell outta me why some tracks are pressed at such a low bpm when they sound like they obviously should be faster. I mean who uses anything lower than -2%? is it just me?

cheers for the replies. I might give it ago if aslong as I can go back to the original settings without having to recalibrate etc :)

No idea - 0 is as low as I go...

I find myself using the range from about -4 to about +4 very often. Especially if I'm warming up the venue or if I'm mixing into a house DJs set who was on before me then I'll play slower. Or say I want to mix in a track that is 137bpm, but I'm at 133bpm then of course you have to use the negative part of the pitch slider. Keep in mind that you can adjust your pitch gain back to normal if you don't like it. Also if you adjust it you don't have to open it up all the way, and yes it will make the fader more sensitive.

Getting it back to factory settings is really hard.

You can get away with pitching up a rhuthm techno track ,and hard house sounds chipmanchy anyway...
But trance, house or progressive will be at the borderline of sounding rediculous sped up to more than 6 or 7 %. Unless you want your music to sound like mickey mouse...

Plus clubs have kept theirs at +,- 8 ,so you will have to adjust when you get a gig sometime...
DONT DO IT!!

Mine have gone back to normal very easily just now, though I haven't ever had a problem with two zero points so can't comment on a complete re-calibration, but my decks have been pitched up for over 8 years, and they've done some mileage (in both senses!)

From what I've read (I'm not going through every guide on the net) the two zero's is caused by general usage anyway.
