MADD and Drugs

Has anyone watched their new promo video they are showing these days?
They came by my workplace and showed it since we are a sponsor. It's about an hour in length and they are showing it in almost every highschool these days.

It had this one story where a mechanic got a late night call to fix some guys car that broke down on the side of the road. So he fixed his car but couldn't help but notice the guy was piss drunk. He kept telling the driver he shouldn't be driving but ofcourse the driver said he was fine. Instead of taking the driver's keys or calling the cops he let him go. Later that same night the driver ended up killing the mechanic's nephew in a car accident. Imagine living with that kind of guilt for the rest of your life!

Anyways, I couldnt help but notice that almost half the film was about drugs. I started wondering if MADD is now called Mothers against Drinking and Drugs. They had a session on a couple kids who just screwed up their lives due to Crystal Meth. Is thing huge or what now? I know in the U.S they are really heavily targeting CM ops. There are all kinds of crazy stats on the number of people who have suffered from it. And after finding out the chems used to make this stuff I'm still baffled as to why. However, I dont hear much of people doing it. Even in MTL drugs of choice still happen to be weed, alcohol, E and LSD (besides the LSD that seems to be mostly everywhere the drugs of choice). Is CM really being used that much? I mean when I talk to people, even the most interesting ones, CM never comes up as a drug they have experienced. Yet seems to be growing so much popularity (or already has?).

I know crystal is far more popular out west.

CM is apparently an epidemic (or so I read, maybe they were bias) in the US. So easy to make, and the high is impressive I'm told, but to what degree of consequences. Addiction and damaging to your health of course... With such a congestive population and access to the internet its going to be near impossible to stop.

Our generation is pretty much what the 60's were, but in a different sense. Lots of drugs (alcohol, chronic, cigs) because we're only starting to find out what the dangers are of them.

If we KNOW what they're doing to our bodies people have more confidence doing them, allowing them to say "Yeah I know cigs are gonna kill my lungs but I know EXACTLY what they'll do to me, no surprises in the future and it's my choice " kind of action people are doing.

The high is practically unnoticeable. It's a stimulant - think of drinking 10 cups of coffee but take away some of the nervousness and gut rot.

That's precisely why it's so addictive. People start using it in order to put off sleep (clubbing, studying for exams, etc.) and before they know it, they are SO exhausted and spun (and can't sleep) that they can't accomplish anything until they get another hit.

It's not an epidemic though, except in the minds of the same puritans and fearmongers who kick and scream about ecstasy usage at raves. The reason they hate it is:
1) It's very cheap to make
2) The chemicals used to make it are common, loosely regulated and easy to obtain
3) It's very dangerous to make (many a meth lab has exploded and ruined huge pieces of land)

You are right. How could I forget? I remember talking to this guy my last trip in MTL and he asked me with a puzzled face, "Who haven't tried speed?!!" He thought I was an alien or something.

I'd rather just, not do drugs? How about get the high from the music.

*runs away after glares from the drug users*

So less of an immediate outbreak, more of an affliction?
