Sylvester Stallone has spoken about reprising his role of Rocky Balboa the boxing champion in the sixth film, called Rocky Balboa.
The 59-year-old star will write and direct the new movie which he is due to shoot in Philadelphia and Las Vegas next year.
Stallone told the Daily Variety trade magazine the movie will focus on an ageing, widowed Rocky who is reluctant to get back in the ring but ends up doing so "just to compete, not to win."
"I am drawing on a lot of my feelings that are in sync with many people's feelings about facing the last chapter of their lives and how they want it to be written," Stallone said.
Dan Taylor, president of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, which is co-producing the film, said the movie focuses less on boxing and more on character.
"It's about self-examination, an opportunity to see what kind of person he is and act on it," Taylor said.
It was not immediately clear whether actress Talia Shire, who appeared in the five previous Rocky films as the boxer's love interest, Adrian, will return in the sixth instalment, said Stuart Herriot, a spokesman with Revolution Studios, which is co-producing the film.
"In the script, she did pass away, but it's unsure whether she might appear in a flashback or in older footage," Herriot said. "It's too early in the production to tell."
But, Herriot said, actor Burt Young is expected to return in Rocky Balboa as Adrian's brother, Paulie.
Stallone wrote all the Rocky films and directed the second, third and fourth entries.

I know this is a couple of weeks old, but it's just un-ing-believable really. He's doing it because he needs closure with the film, because soooo many people just hadda know. Did we not get closure in Rocky V when he kicked Tommy Gunn's pansy ass in a street fight, Philly style--and then proceeded to retire into obscurity? Was that not "The End?" You mean now I have to sit through the death of Talia Shire and what probably grew up to be the world's biggest disappointment of a son in movie history? Who ya gonna fight, Rock? Who's it gonna be? Will Stallone be flabby like Rocky I or will he be a rock-hard chiseled freak like he was in Moscow in Rocky IV when he single-handedly defeated Communism?! God Damn it, Sly, why did you do it to me? Why must I now watch a sixth Rocky film? So they can attain a Star Wars like sextology or double trilogy trophy? So who will Rocky's ultimate opponent be? Butterbean? Damn, this is going to suck.

| I truly enjoyed all of the Rocky film series, but this is to much now... He should have left the Rocky movies as American Classics. |

I am so gonna watch this, just so i will be able to see the terrorists/communist/whatevertheythinkof capture and torture that american bastard :D You know its gonna happen at some point he is gooing to get cought and tortured and that will be the best part of the movie :D |

Anyway, yeah, I've heard about Rambo 4 being in production. I remember something about Stalone saying that it took him so long because Rambo was a complex character to develop or something like that. Anyway, it's too bad that Schwarzenegger won't be starring in Conan 3 :( |
