Soundcard Question

First off, thanks to those that are actually looking at this. I love the fact that I can always come here to ask my stupid questions! :)
I have a creative sound blaster audio pci soundcard in my puter. I also have an aiwa dts home theater system close by. I would like to hook up my computer to the home theater system to be able to play games/listen to tunes off my computer in surround sound.
I have tried to hook them up via a rca-->8th inch; going from the sound output on my computer to the phono input. When I play a song all I get is realllllly distorted noise coming out of my speakers.
My friend suggested that I get a higher wattage soundcard since the one I have in there now can't take what the home theater system is sending it. Is this correct?...if so, can anyone suggest a card that would be good?
Thanks so much in advance for any help/suggestions.
Peace,
Steve |

hmm dunno if u've tried already Viceroy
...but today my s/card stuffed up & the sound was totally distorted...i was stumped 'cos it's never happened before & i had no idea what was wrong
well...i just reinstalled the soundcard drivers (downloaded them from the web & ran the executeable)...it's a yamaha soundcard, & this fixed the problem
the only other thing i can think is maybe the output is too high...ie. the sound is clipping, so maybe that is why it is distorting...check ur volume control settings on ur computer & maybe make them half volume instead of full volume
otherwise, maybe don't plug it into the phono input...afaik, phono is for record/lp players which do have a lower output voltage than other components...& maybe ur amp has a preamp or something for the phono, so try plug it into the line or aux instead & see if that fixes it?
actually, thinking now...prolly try the phono swap first, that's what i'd think the problem is, otherwise hopefully others can offer more possible solutions
good-luck!!! :):):)

Your problem is that you are using the wrong input. The phono input , for example, is only valid for turntables (this is due to impedance questions).
You must use, for example, the TV/VCR input. That is the way that I have my computer conected to my audio equipment and works perfectly.

It has nothing to do with the voltage...
Try plugging it to the AUX/Video/TV.... or any other input you have but NOT PHONO!!!
If it doesn't work, try decrasing the volume on your comp and incrasing it on the stereo system...
Also it could be a bad quality cable... try it with another cable and see if it works then.:) |
