here is my 'progressive remake' of 'chilldown101'

it uses the same melodies and pads as my chillout version but i have rebuilt the track as a more upbeat version. but still in my usual melodic style. im quite happy with the drum sounds cos they are a lot better than my usual style.

here it is:-

richard gale - chilldown101 (progressive remake)

as always i love to hear any good/bad feedback or suggestions:)

no replies:(

anyone tell me their feelings/advise on my track? :nervous:

I like the basic feel of this track and I think I understand the feelings you are trying to evoke. I think I could do some awesome production on this. Quite dark and minimalistic.

Constructive criticism:

1. That bell/piano sound is a little cheap sounding. It sounds like a GS/GM sound from a stock preset out of a Roland D-20 or something from that era.

2. No trippy effects, ambient, or wide stereo sounds. Nothing to take the listeners attention away from the 7 minutes of chord progression repitition. Listn to any commercial prog track and you'll hear tons of effects that most people probably never even notice are there.

3. No bass (at least that I can hear on comp speakers)

4. That synth sound that comes in at the 1 minute mark is nice, but would sound great if it was a bit fatter.

5. I love that boom you have going into and during the break.

Not quite sure what type of track you are going for here, but as far as DJ purposes it doesn't have enough energy and the break didn't hype me up.

Overall nice work. I would love to hear this track progress further.

thanks for the crit fuzzygreen.

i been working on the track tonight. was considering getting rid of the 'cheap' sounding synth 'crystal E.P' is the name of it from an old technics keyboard. its a sound that i associate with a lot of 80's film soundtracks. i just couldnt decide on another sound tho..

i was trying to add an evil ringmodulator effect to each part but each track just sounded far to extreme when i gave them a dose one by one. im gonna add a female vocal uttering one word every now and then and add some more atmospheric sounds/noizes.

i phattened up that synth you like. loads more eq around the 2500hz+ mark. that worked a treat!

id call it bedroom or background progressive trance with ambience..

thanks again mate:)

Very minimalistic tune.

I felt things were missing in this one for a chillout. Some attentiongrabbers.

I don't think you should change elements in your tune, I'd just like more things happening in it. String sweeps, another blip going in due mode with your other blip and maybe panned more, things like that.

Also, maybe you should check out a more ambient deeper kick with more reverb.

Just some ideas :)

Cool stuff

Hey bro, quite like the original, so I'll give this a listen too.

The kick is lacking in power I think, also where is the bassline? :sadgreen: I reckon you could go pretty nuts with some low frequency fx on the bassline and make it a focus of the track.

The break could do with more atmospherics too. Ocean sounds, seagulls maybe ?? ;)

I can see how you've tried to keep it minimal though and I think thats really working so far, its just not sounding full enough imho. I'd say work more on the actual textures of the elements that are allready there and get that kick really deep and thumping. Maybe add some other tribal or dub percussive elements too to spice it up here and there.
And definately add a bass element of some sort.

drik: thanks mate. ill add a bit of a string layer with a sweep to it. the bass has been upped a notch since i posted this here and its a lot more full now.

axolotyl: thanks for checkin this one:)

bass: the bassline is a little bit low in volume i also noticed.. this has been sorted out with a bit more volume. so now there is a nice longnote bass in there.. i really need a nord or virus for some nice bass..

kick: ill eq it a bit and then comp it till it thumps!

seagulls: ill give it a go:)

some tribal percs will do it justice. thats a cool idea!

thanks guys:)
