It won't be a 5 when it hits, if it hits. Gulf Water is cooler than Caribbean, so it's going to lose power once it moves up some.
And forecasters also know all until it's closer. Even then, it can change for the better or worse at last minute. Don't worry too much, but Tampa area will probably start closing down in preperation this weekend if they don't alter the forecast significantly. |
didnt katrina and rita strengthen in the gulf sir? |

They did. However the waters are not as warm anymore plus the jet stream sheer will cause the hurricane to weaken. That's what the weather guru's on TV are saying. I hope this bitch Wilma just breaks up completely and all we get a nice a rain shower. |

This is so not true...Gulf waters are much warmer than the Atlantic waters, this is a proven fact. The gulf area it will touch contains the warmest waters. Which is the reason why Rita & Katrina both intensified so vastly over that area. Rita weakened later on after passing through. |

Hang in there Floridians.... all these storms/hurricanes the past couple of years definitely suck!..I still love florida though!
I just talked to my friend's in tampa this morning and they were like, yeah, it's nothing...
.....oookkkkk!!! sure sounds like a big something! one of my friend's said they're playing it up up north on the news and in Tampa the newscasters aren't making much of a deal of it.
but, that also could have changed since this morning!

Hurricane season is not over until Nov.29 or something. We are actually on the peak season still. Waters in the gulf are much warmer then the Atlantic, but they may have decreased a bit compared to couple weeks ago, that does not mean its cool.. its warm as a mofo out there. Now, what forecasters are saying is that.. Thank god its a cat. 5 right now cause its merely impossible for the hurricane to keep the strength that it has now.. it would have been a different story if its right offshore and it goes up like that from night to morning. Its said it will fall to a cat. 4 or 3, even a 2.. but, that does not mean that all the Clubbing activities will go on and all the Sander guru's will be able to go party at the terrace, cause this will be RAIN+WIND and thats a no no for a turntable or any electrical device ( note that WIND makes rain go sideways so only place safe its inside ).. and I doubt that the city officials and owners will take chances after what was seen with Katrina and Rita.. no no. Eitherway, if it heads this way, lets expect electrical outages and floodings which will be a given if indeed. |

on the contrary
it's expected to hit florida as a solid category 4 with a category 5 storm surge
this storm is a freak
do not underestimate its power
it was supposed to weaken during its first eye wall replacement cycle
it only did a little bit... not as much as hurricanes usually do
its still plowing strong, its a tough son of a |

| Im curious to see what would happen had a full Cat. 5 hurricane hit land someplace, just to see what mother nature could do at its "normal" peak strength. |

If there would be such a thing as a Cat.6 or 7.. This one would fall on one of those two. |

There were periods when Katrina was hitting that "Cat. 6" capability when it had winds of 175mph. |
