I just wanted to ask what the .cue files are used for
Zild
For burning a set with markers for each track. Someone help me out if I'm wrong.

what program would you use??

.cue is normally a cd image or part of a cd image file.

the .cue file tells where the tracks change on the cd, if the wav or mp3 file is one big file with lots of tracks on it. so when the wav/mp3 is burned with the aid of the .cue file the tracks will be separate on the cd, but with no pauses between them, therefore .cue files are pretty useful for mixed cds.
.cue files can also be used to burn data cds too, but i can't really tell any more details about that, except that they work pretty much the same way there.
and you can burn a cd using a .cue file with nero for example (and pretty much any half decent burning program).

i hope this was clear enough. didn't quite know how to put it all into words!

to clarify what has already been said:

.cue files give specific directions to the cd burner. it tells it when to split a track, how long the pause should be (if any) and can also subdivide a track into subtracks (which is something cd burning programs cannot do). also, by using the artist and title headers in a .cue file, it can tell the burner to write cd-text.

just remember, when making a .cue file, the time will be in a format of:
mm:ss:ff

mm = minutes (00-80)
ss = seconds (00-59)
ff = frames (00-74)

75 frames are the same as 100 ms. so you have to convert ms to frames. i always forget that rule when im making .cue files.

hope that helps.

as to an easy burning program that uses .cue files and is FREE - get a copy of EAC.

there's a whole cue file tutorial in the how to forum

Also, (if not stated already) there is a plugin for winamp to use cue files to split up mp3s while still being played on the computer.

Thanks all of you for the quick responses. Now I can finally get tracks on my CD's instead of one hour long track.
