| quote: | Who knew the gamble of starting a reality show to find a lead singer for INXS would have such a large payoff? Probably reality kingpin Mark Burnett, the mastermind behind Rock Star: INXS. Now, the Australian band are sailing out of obscurity with Canadian J.D. Fortune at the helm, which has led to talk about whether or not Rock Star will run for a second season.
If the show is picked up by CBS, the question then becomes: who are the next band to hold a talent competition for their new lead singer?
Rumours are circulating that the next Rock Star group will be none other than Van Halen. The band did not comment on these rumours, but a source close to the show told MTV News Alex and Eddie Van Halen and Michael Anthony will be auditioning potential men and women in a new season. If this really is the case the winner will be following the succession of frontmen David Lee Roth, Sammy Hagar and, ever so briefly, Gary Cherone, formerly of Extreme.
There were rumours that Alice In Chains are competing for the Rock Star job, but a spokesperson for Jerry Cantrell said the guitarist "scoffed" at the idea that the band would appear on the show or even consider it.
It's relatively safe to say that one of the show's main participants will be back if a second season is greenlit.
"I made some really great friends, and I also got to be a part of helping some artists reach out and touch their dreams. Whether or not they won the show wasnt the point; the point was they got to do their craft in front of millions of people," said super-emo Rock Star helper monkey Dave Navarro.
