Why do people call everything techno?

Everything that features electronic elements is called techno. I just saw a lot idiots say about the new Mike Oldfield "I hate all that techno on it". I've seen The Chemical Brothers being called techno.
WTF IS UP WITH THIS? Is there some story behind everything being called techno by the general Joe? |

| It's just a chain reaction. One person says it, everybody hears it, and after awhile everybody knows the term 'techno'. On the other hand, no one knows the terms "house", "trance", "electro", etc, so when they hear anything remotely similar with electronic elements in it, they call it techno because it's the only word that they know. |

| because in the past, genres weren't really divided, nobody said "trance", few said "house, so everyone said "techno". and it stuck for the mainstream. |
