people do that all over the world and they are trained for it. i know a few people who take a dip in the ocean on new years even when its like 10 F outside. |

| isn't it dangerous to heat the body up or cool the body down too quickly? i mean you always here that if you have hypothermia and ...you DON'T go jump in a hot shower because your body needs to warm itself gradually. i don't know the exact science of it, but i believe its something to the effect of expanding cells or something and them bursting or something like that i dunno. |

My cat was meowing under my feet while I was doing a piss. It made me laugh & I wobbled & accidently pissed on its head.
later it cleaned itself by wiping its head with it's paw & then licking it's feet. |

water on your skin uses the heat from your body to evaporate.
this is why you get cold when coming out of a pool, even on a hot day.
while being cold will never make you sick, rapidly changing from warm to cold is hard on your system, like walking back and forth between a heated building and a really cold outside. |
To add to this, being hard on your body it weakens the immune system for a period, which allows a virus already in the body to grow worse.
In other words, you have to be harbouring the virus already to get sick from simply getting cold. And the only reason why it gets you sick is because the immune system weakens allowing the virus to take over.
I'm tired so if that didn't make sense and you need clarification, let me know and I'll reword it. |

is this fine or bad for u? i was in my health class today and some girl kept arguing that it doesn't matter at all. My prof kept saying something along hte lines that wet surfaces tend to lose heat more or something and your body gets cold too fast.
I usually don't take a shower before i'm about to go outside cause I really do feel very cold and start sniffling and start quickly.
Since there alot of Canadians here that live in much colder weather than me, whats your take?
P.S. Not a high thread! |
YOU CAN NOT GET SICK FROM COLD WEATHER.
Sniffling and cold-like symptoms are just a result of your body's temperature changing/trying to adjust.
The idea that the cold makes you sick is one of the oldest and dumbest health myths there is. You can only catch a cold or flu from the bacteria/germs/virus that carries the sickness. WHICH HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE WEATHER.
Me=nursing student.
edit: and like some have already said, the only thing about the weather that makes you get sick is that it may weaken your immune system. |

| This reminds me of a Ren & Stimpy episode where Stimpy recalls everytime he has died, since he has nine lives, and he remembers when he went outside during winter after taking a shower, and he gets hit by a bus. |
