Is Trance for Dance?

Is trance music the best music to dance to? Personally I prefer to dance to Hard House but like to listen to trance when I am chilling......

I think trance is wicked to dance to, hard house is good too but I think some funky/tribal/acid whatever kind it is, House music takes the cake...

Trance and Hard House are pretty good, but Breaks are the best...
Aviston
I'd rather dance to trance than to any other type of music. Of course, I like ATB-Around the World (see previous thread), so my opinion may be null and void

The main reason I ask is that I saw Chicane (live) and Oakey on Monday night and I was suprised at how little they motivated me to move my feet. After experiencing the likes of Lab 4 at 'Frantic' on Satuday night I just did not find the Oakey gig made me move. Don't get me wrong, I love listening to Trance but maybe not as much dancing to trance.

I love BREAKS, especially when someone makes a break remix of a trance tune. It just blows my mind.

I guess it really depends what kind of trance you are listening to. I can't stop moving when I play any of Johan Gielen's recent live sets. But most of oakies sets are pretty mellow... more of the trance you listen to than dance to.

I went to a Dave Ralph show last weekend, and was quite suprised to find him spinning all house as opposed to trance (maybe this is normal, but every album I've heard from him is trance). The music was good, and I enjoyed dancing all night to his mixes, but while on the dance floor I was a little preoccupied wishing he was spinning trance.

I enjoy falling into the music while dancing and house just doesn't have a serious enough vibe for me to do this.

Try the harder trance sound! Check out some mixes of Tom Wax, Talla 2XLC, Gary D., Taucher and DJ Dean. Their style must make you move.

Peace!

Yeah I agree with YEZy .. I think the best music to dance on is Hard-Trance .. a great trance sound mixed with harder basses and beats .. just listen to Gary D. - Attention '99 or Overload and you'll know what I mean Cya!

There seems to be a trend with the really big name DJ's (Oakey, Sasha, Digweed) to start playing lower energy sets. I haven't seen any of the three live, but from recent sets I've heard, they cannot compete with somewhat less mainstream DJ's (Tiesto, Gielen, Van Buuren). I would much rather listen to the latter as the music has a much higher energy.

I totally agree... I can't listen to the ambient sorta chilling trance that Oakie/Sasha/Dig/Chicane. Maybe after i bun a small spliff. But not to dance to. Harder Trance/Techno is the way to go.
